Punish the coach and school as much as you want, they were the guilty ones. The team, especially at D3 level, are playing for the love of the game and in NO WAY deserve to lose the championship they worked so hard to achieve. Had there been criminality on the part of any members of the team, then the penalty would fit the crime. This is a technical violation that in no way whatsoever gave UMHB any advantage. IMO TOTALLY UNWARRANTED.

They weren't given cars for extended use, a short loan, twice, and the car broke down. Curse these boosters and giving kids Bentleys to drive. If a kid needs a car to use, wouldn't we want it to be the coach to loan it to him, not a booster?

I get why people are upset about the punishment, but this seems like a pretty cut-and-dried case. If the coach "unintentionally" violated the rules then he's too ignorant of the rules to be in his position.

That said, the University and coach (could be) penalized in some way, which they were, but the kids should not have their title stripped away by a bunch of suits in a conference room. Sports are won and lost on field & courts.

They estimated the value of the benefit at $5000. That would be a hard number to reach without the student athlete being in possession most or all of those 18 months.
