  • OT Another JC drops football

Last year, my junior college alma mater, Ridgewater in Willmar MN dropped football after three games. This week, Northland of Thief River Falls, MN and Dakota College in Bottineau, ND both dropped the sport. Last year seven schools in Arizona- the whole league except Snow College in Utah- dropped the sport. This seems to be more of a trend as college costs increase. Evidently there were some start ups by native schools in Arizona- this is the first that I've heard about that.

Junior college football is going to be dead outside of California and the South in 5-10 years (CA juco football is fairly healthy in part due to the lack of football programs below FBS for a state of its size)

When I played we had two divisions in Minnesota. Played an eight game regular season- didn't play one team. So that meant ten teams in a division. Then the North winner played the South winner in the Gopher's Memorial Stadium. Now I think they are down to nine total- including Wahpeton which is in North Dakota. I wonder how many more will be dropping- so many players come from Florida, Georgia and other southern states. They stay here for the season and then leave like migrating birds to get away from the winter.
