In the case of the first two, they were denied D2 membership the previous year. Since all three had accepted invitations to their respective conferences for at least 1.5 years, they were already included on the conference schedules.
I suppose the introduction of the McMurry rule in D3 complicated matters for reclassification. Before that, Year 1 schools could still be eligible for the postseason in D3. (It appears that Mississippi College and the current four are the only schools to make the D3 to D2 move since.)

NCAA gives UST the OK to move to D1. Summit for most sports, WCHA for women's hockey and Pioneer football.

Finally, something from Allen. They will be adding Men's and Women's Cross Country. The release says a conference has yet to be determined but may land in the SIAC. How is that possible since the first question on the application is what conference have you received an invitation from. Maybe they just don't want to say anything yet for some reason; or there is something else going on.

          Update:

The RMAC has dropped Women's Tennis. The conference dropped Men's Tennis in 2018 leaving Colorado Mesa, Colorado State-Pueblo, and Metropolitan State to compete as Independents. Both Mesa and Metro men's and women's programs join the PWC as an affiliate; announcements were made in February. Pueblo's women's team joins the men's team as an Independent for the time being; their coach just "semi"-retired so a lot is happening with the program.

I wonder when we'll here more on CETYS after Mexican teams being allowed into the NCAA. I know there was talk of them in the GNAC and that they were considering the move.

The talk about CETYS joining the CCAA and GNAC football was non-stop in the latter half of 2017. That was when they opened the season at Humboldt State. D2 voted to allow Mexican members in January 2018. By March 2018 all talk about CETYS and D2 had stopped. It would be interesting to know where that stands now.

The only reason we know anything about them is from the February Membership Committee report and today's announcement by the committee. CSI even did a fun and exciting video just for advancing to Year 2.

The Columbia, SC media barely gives D2 member Benedict College any coverage and they are literally across the street from Allen. It's SC Gamecocks and everyone else. Right now Allen doesn't have an SID staff; it's being run by the AD. The school returned to football in 2018, so it's going to take them some time to get notoriety, aka they are going to have to win more games first.

The D2 Membership Committee meeting: July 2020 Report

                    A key item.
Paine College Division II membership status. Staff provided an update that Paine College forfeited its active member status in Division II on May 29, 2020, due to a loss of regional accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges [see NCAA Division II Constitution 3.3.5.2 (Removal of Accreditation)].
Paine was one of the schools who received a gift to start Men's Volleyball. This will impact the SIAC's ability to move forward with the sport.

Ohio Valley U is dropping out of the GMAC. But it doesn't say where they are going. Mountain East? NAIA? Anyone know?

D3 UMAC adds Finlandia as an associate member for football. They needed to add another team to keep their automatic playoff big after losing St Scholastica to the MIAC and Iowa Wesleyan to the NAIA.
