  • Moving Day 2021

    Happy Moving Day!

Converse College becomes Converse University and adds men's teams.

Ashland moves from the GLIAC to the GMAC; Ashland Wrestling had joined the GMAC in 2020.

Augusta D1 Men's and Women's Golf join the Southland Conference, the men's team was a Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference affiliate and the women's team was an Independent.

Francis Marion moves from the PBC to the CC and FMU D1 Men's Golf moves from Independent to the Southland Conference.

North Carolina-Pembroke moves from the PBC to the CC and they are bringing Women's Swimming & Diving and Men's Wrestling with them from the MEC; North Carolina-Pembroke Men's and Women's Track & Field Indoor had joined the CC in 2020. UNCP Football remains in the MEC.

D'Youville College fully joins the ECC while their Rowing and Men's Volleyball are Independent. DYC competed in the ECC for some sports during 2020-21. Allen joins the SIAC while their Women's Soccer and Men's Wrestling are Independent.

St. Cloud State Men's Soccer affiliates with the GLIAC. Augustana Men's Tennis affiliates with the GAC/MIAA Partnership. Wisconsin-Parkside Men's Wrestling affiliates with the NSIC. All were previously Independent

The CC and the GMAC add Bowling as a conference sport. The conferences will operate separately during the regular season then combine for a single postseason tournament. The CC will include Belmont Abbey College who was previously Independent, Chowan joins from the CIAA, Emmanuel College elevates their team to varsity status, and affiliate members Lincoln Memorial and Tusculum who are both moving over from the ECC. The GMAC starts with Kentucky Wesleyan College, Ursuline College, and Walsh who were all previously Independent.

The D1 Men's Western Collegiate Hockey Association dissolves with no change to the Women's WCHA. Alaska becomes an Independent. Bemidji State, Ferris State, Lake Superior State, Michigan Tech, Minnesota State-Mankato. and Northern Michigan reform the Men's Central Collegiate Hockey Association with two D1 members.

Ohio Valley leaves D2 and the GMAC to join the NAIA River States Conference. Announced after last year's special post, Paine College left D2 and the SIAC due to accreditation issues.

In Memoriam: Concordia College closes. They were ECC members in 1989-2009 and CACC members in 2009-2021.

(Would have been nice to see that on a helmet.)

The final count of teams added and dropped in Summer 2020 was 30 schools added 43 teams and 19 schools dropped 36 teams. This year the current count is 14 schools adding 34 teams for 2021-22 and 2 schools have dropped 8 teams. Additionally, 14 schools are adding 14 NCAA Emerging Sport teams.

Alaska-Anchorage Skiing (Alpine, Nordic) was originally scheduled to be dropped but only Alpine was cut and it has since been reinstated. Alaska-Anchorage Women's Gymnastics has also been reinstated and to compete beyond this season they need to raise another $444,000 by June 30, 2022. Alaska-Anchorage Men's Ice Hockey has until August 30, 2021 to raise $3M in order to play again starting in the 2022-23 season. If UAA Ice Hockey returns, it will not be in the WCHA.

Alabama-Huntsville Men's Ice Hockey was also left homeless when the WCHA dissolved causing UAH to suspend the team until they can find a new conference. (Will the team ever hit the ice again?)

Added and dropped teams. Team will play or did play outside the school's primary conference where indicated.

    Added teams
    Lincoln Memorial Field Hockey
    (M) Wrestling
Emerging Sport added teams Dropped teams The DII Membership Committee meets on July 7-8. The 2021 applicants are Edward Waters College in Jacksonville, FL (SIAC) and Emory & Henry College in Emory, VA (SAC).

    ---------------------------

Coming in 2022: 1 school to change conferences and 10 teams will be added.

Moves expected to happen within the next 2-3 years. The SAC will sponsor Men's and Women's Swimming & Diving by essentially absorbing the Bluegrass Mountain Conference; 6 of 7 BMC members are SAC schools and the other is a NAIA school. Emory & Henry College will give the SAC a 7th team. The SIAC will sponsor Men's and Women's Track & Field Indoor. Edward Waters College will be the 6th SIAC team.

Having computer and other issues currently so I can't do a Membership Committee post. I will say the committee did do as expected.

Of course I want Allen to succeed but when you look at this from the NCAA Directory it's clear they have a lot of work to do. https://web3.ncaa.org/directory/orgDetail?id=30240

                      https://www.espn.com/college-sports/...n-division-iii

A group of athletes and student managers at the University of Hartford have filed a lawsuit in an attempt to block the school from downgrading its athletic programs from Division I to Division III.

The lawsuit, filed Wednesday in U.S. District Court, argues the school is breaking promises made to the athletes when they were recruited to Hartford, including that "they would be able to participate in a Division I athletic program for up to five years."

The university's board of regents voted last May to make the transition to Division III after a consultant's report concluded that the move could save the school more than $9 million per year.

The school, which joined Division I in the mid-1980s, plans to submit a formal request to the NCAA for reclassification in January 2022. It plans to stop offering athletic scholarships before the 2023-24 school year and to complete the transition by Sept. 1, 2025.

The lawsuit seeks unspecified monetary damages and a permanent injunction that would block the move.

I knew more than a year ago that this was going to happen; just didn't know when and certainly didn't know it had actually already happened.

On June 30, 2021; Edward Waters College became Edward Waters University.

As far as I can find, they haven't announced starting a team and haven't announced hiring a coach but last month Dominican (CA) announced the inaugural signing class for the new Men's and Women's Track & Field Outdoor teams to begin play in 2021-22. Add them to the table above.

Penguins announce inaugural class for Track and Field

The Dominican Penguins are also starting another sport in 2022-23 that will likely be a RMAC affiliate. They did announce hiring a coach already for this sport.
