  • Moving Day 2019

Today we say goodbye to Heartland Conference, Long Island-Post, and Merrimack College.

The Heartland Conference disbands. LIU-Post leaves the East Coast Conference to consolidate with LIU-Brooklyn in D1 as the Long Island University Sharks. The LIU Sharks will retain LIU-Brooklyn's membership in the D1 Northeast Conference. Merrimack leaves the NE10 to move to the D1 Northeast Conference.

Heartland orphans Arkansas-Fort Smith, Dallas Baptist, Lubbock Christian, Oklahoma Christian, St. Edward's, St. Mary's, and Texas A&M International join the LSC with D2 newcomer Texas-Tyler who is moving from D3.

Fellow Heartland orphans Newman and Rogers State join the MIAA to replace Lindenwood and Southwest Baptist who left for the GLVC.

The MEC loses Shepherd to the PSAC and Virginia-Wise to the SAC while gaining Davis & Elkins from the G-MAC and Frostburg State from D3.

Chowan completes their move from the CIAA to Conference Carolinas and Savannah State returns to the SIAC from D1.

Four conferences will have new championship sports. The GLVC adds Women's Lacrosse. The GSC adds Men's and Women's Track & Field Indoor. The LSC returns Men's Soccer. The MEC adds Men's and Women's Track & Field Indoor and Wrestling.

The GAC-MIAA Men's Soccer and Men's Tennis partnership begins. All Men's Soccer teams in both conferences will compete for the GAC Championship and all Men's Tennis teams in both conferences will compete for the MIAA Championship.

A total of 32 schools have combined to add 52 teams with 10 schools dropping 16 teams. These numbers are based on what is currently known and will likely change by the time the fall season begins.

    Other changes include.

Claflin Baseball moving from Independent to the PBC.

Mercy, Molloy, and St. Thomas Aquinas Field Hockey moving from Independent to the NE10.

Lincoln (MO) Football returns to the MIAA from the GLVC.

Notre Dame de Namur Men's Lacrosse moving from Independent to the RMAC.

Shorter Men's Lacrosse moving from the GLVC to Independent.

Upper Iowa Men's Soccer moving from the MIAA to the GLIAC.

North Carolina-Pembroke Women's Swimming & Diving, Men's and Women's Track & Field Indoor, and Wrestling move from Independent to the MEC.

D1 said goodbye to the Eastern Wrestling League with Bloomsburg, Clarion, Edinboro, and Lock Haven Wrestling joining the D1 Mid-American Conference.

California-San Diego Women's Water Polo moving from the Western Water Polo Association to the D1 Big West Conference.

Davis & Elkins Men's Lacrosse will remain in the G-MAC as an affiliate.

Frostburg State Field Hockey will be an Independent while Men's Lacrosse will join the ECC.

Savannah State Women's Golf and Men's and Women's Track & Field Indoor will be Independent.

School name changes. Coker College is now Coker University. Western State Colorado University is now Western Colorado University.

The DII Membership Committee meets on July 9-11 to evaluate the provisional members and determine the membership applications from Frostburg State, joining the MEC in 2019, and College of Staten Island, joining the ECC in 2020.

That was educational. You hear about changes (or miss them) one at a time- it is interesting to see all the changes at once.

    Thanks for posting.

Tech Boys, this was put together very well. I echo Laker's statement. Seeing this compilation of moves is eye-opening. There are so many moving pieces any given year.

A couple short notes relating to the schools who changed primary conferences.

No changes for the D1 teams at Dallas Baptist and Lindenwood.

All the teams that competed outside the school's former primary conference as an Independent or as a member of another conference will now compete in the school's new primary conference.

        ---

Coming in 2020: 9 schools are adding 10 teams, 1 school is changing conferences, and 3 schools are leaving for D1.

                Sorry, one more change.

All of the teams at Tarleton State are now the Texans. TexAnns is no longer used as the nickname for the women's teams.

                      Re: Moving Day 2019

New changes have been announced starting in 2019-20 season.

The GNAC has added Rowing as a championship sport with Seattle Pacific and Western Washington and affiliates Central Oklahoma and Humboldt State. Central Oklahoma has won the last two national titles and UCO, HSU, and WWU have combined to win 12 of the 18 rowing national titles.

Bowling will transfer sponsorship from the MIAA to the GLVC. This is a move I was anticipating but not this soon. The five current MIAA Bowling teams will now compete under the GLVC name and are joined by Lewis and Upper Iowa. Quincy begins bowling in 2020-21. McKendree won the national title in 2017.

                      ---

                      Thanks for enjoying this thread.
