Odd week 5 critical game in the PSAC EAST, Shippensburg @ Shepherd. The RAMS swept through a tough 3 game season opening road trip (ODU, GANNON, IUP), returned to the friendly confines of Rams Stadium and got mauled by the Golden Bears of Kutztown, 29-37 and it wasn't that close. Although the Raiders of Shippensburg have had a cupcake schedule, they are 4-0 and have one of the best QBs in the league in Brycen Mussina ( 80-116-0 and 10 TDs for an ER of 177.4 ). The battle with the Rams Tyson Bagent (125-166-3 and 17 TDs for an ER of 185.2) should be epic and go a long way to deciding the Eastern representative in the State Game. Ship has some wiggle room, Shep has very little since 2 losses will probably be iffy in the SR1 post season.

#15 West Alabama @ #9 West Georgia and #1 West Florida @ Delta State should be interesting.

The key matchup in the GAC this weekend is the battle of the two unbeaten teams, SEOK and Henderson State. Harding - OK Baptist could be interesting as well.

The GLVC begins conference play this week. Best matchup of the week has to be Lindenwood at #22 Truman State.

Lindenwood originally ranked #23 in the D2 preseason poll after making it to the second round of the playoffs in 2019. LU got off to a rough start to the season with a 20-point loss to Angelo State and a 52-7 loss to FCS #3 South Dakota State, but has since won their last two; 56-34 against Kentucky Wesleyan and 28-16 against Findlay.

Truman began the season receiving votes in the AFCA poll, and has been flawless on the season at 4-0 and debuting this week in the D2 poll at #22. Truman State has the 11th ranked rushing defense in the nation and Cody Schrader is 2nd in the nation in rushing with 634 yards and 8 touchdowns in 4 games.

Last time these two teams met was in 2019 in St. Charles, where the Lions pulled of a comeback for the ages when the Lions scored a touchdown with just over a minute to go to cut a Truman State lead down to 3 points. They were able to recover the ensuing onsides kick, then drive down to score the game winning touchdown with only 6 seconds remaining.

This game should tell a lot about both squads.

In the CIAA this week's marquee game is Shaw vs Virginia Union. Both 2-2 overall and 1-0 in conference play.

The CIAA's current top teams (Bowie St, Chowan and Fayetteville St) are all playing winless opponents this week. With that said, the biggest potential regular season game in the CIAA will likely come next week if Bowie and Chowan both take care of business this Saturday.

Without mentioning any of the foregoing games:

#20 Duluth AT MSU-Moorhead: This is a "prove it" game for Duluth after getting upset on Saturday

#7 Grand Valley AT Saginaw Valley: Heated rivalry, usually closer than it has any right to be. A GV win means the conference title will be decided in Allendale on the 16th, while an SV win would likely stick GV in 3rd for a second consecutive(?) season

#15 UNK AT Fort Hays: Fort Hays SEEMS good and UNK IS good, that's about as deep as i'm gonna get

Washburn AT Emporia State: Washburn started on a tear before losing a close game to UNK, while ESU has lost two straight by a combined 3 points. I think Washburn wins but ESU is hungry...

                    Possible good games this week:

Frostburg State at #14 Notre Dame: Frostburg is playing like a playoff team in their last probation year while ND is coming off a loss for the first time in forever, FSU's defense is stingy while ND has a great offense.

#13 Bowie State at Chowan: We have maybe the best offense in the country facing off against one of the best secondaries in D2 for pole position in the conference championship race and maybe a home playoff game

#16 West Georgia at Mississippi College: MS. College played West Alabama close the week before they soundly beat WGa., I take that to mean these two are fairly similar in level

Delta State at #3 Valdosta State: The Fightin' Okra nearly beat UWF last week, can they prove it wasn't due to fluke weather?

I'll add to this list with Pueblo @ Chadron. Pueblo shocked Chadron in 2009 and hasn't lost to them since. If there is any year for Chadron to break that losing streak it is this one.

4-1 Pitt St & 4-0 NWMSU should be a good match up

Two key GAC match ups for Henderson State (5-0) this week and next are East Central OK (4-1) and Harding (4-1). Both are in Arkadelphia, AR at 2:00 pm.

It's a quiet Saturday in the PSAC with only SHIPPENSBURG at WEST CHESTER having significance since one of the teams will be tagged with their second loss and come close to effectively eliminating their PO chances. Otherwise unless there's a major upset, the other seven games will be pro forma.

Wayne State (NE) (4-1) at Minnesota State (4-1) is a good one in the NSIC
