From the CIAA land there are a couple of interesting matchups:

Benedict @ Fayetteville State - After being a doormat for years Benedict has been trending up in the SIAC the last few seasons and Fayetteville State has been CIAA runner-up the last two seasons. Benedict is picked second in the SIAC East and Fayetteville State is picked first in CIAA South.
VUU @ Hampton (FCS) - VA Union is projected to win the CIAA so if they can find a way to keep this respectable it could shed some light on their chances for a playoff run. Also, Hampton has Florida State transfer Deondre Francois at QB so if they can somewhat contain him that could speak volumes for their defense.

I thought Bowie was picked to win the CIAA and VUU was picked to finish 3rd.

I seldom come up to this part of the board and almost never to other conferences, and the subject does come up now and then within RMAC with Pueblo's rise to prominence. Hope to see you guys again in the playoffs this year!

I for one never understood why Bowie was expected to repeat as conference champs. BSU is a big question mark after Amir Hall graduated. I hope Bowie does well, but I expect them to decline this year. 7-3 team at the very best.

Good catch! I get the two mixed up since we made a trip to Angelo too back then. Played and beat them in Dallas.

When Angelo then backed out of coming to Pueblo in 2014 for the regular season? Good times! Karma caught up to them months later :loser:

A lot of great games week 1...that big one in the GAC is particularly interesting.

This is totally old-man-biased, but I LOVE Michigan Tech at Hillsdale. With them being "estranged" former league mates, it's cool to see them still playing each other. Both outfits have long been very methodical...execution is key to the offenses, small chunks of yardage, high completion %'s, convert the crap out of 3rd downs, almost no penalties, etc. Those games are usually tight ones as well.

This is totally old-man-biased, but I LOVE Michigan Tech at Hillsdale. With them being "estranged" former league mates, it's cool to see them still playing each other. Both outfits have long been very methodical...execution is key to the offenses, small chunks of yardage, high completion %'s, convert the crap out of 3rd downs, almost no penalties, etc. Those games are usually tight ones as well.

Good one. Though, rumor that distance was one reason for the departure of Hillsdale... so they play MTU? WTF?

Saggy vs A&M-Kingsville will say a lot about what kind of team we'll be this year. Saggy seems to have a pretty solid team from a consistently tough conference so my gut tells me they win this pretty easy. The way our last two seasons have played out, I just want to see us be competitive. A win would be awesome, but I'll be satisfied if we just hang with a team like Saggy.

I'll throw Northwest at Missouri Western into the mix. Bitter geographic rivalry that's been one-sided of late, but the Griffons are coming off their first winning campaign in a few years, including a bowl win. I hope it's a good game.

Pitt and UCO is normally a pretty good game and both schools are trying to get over the hump.

It should be interesting. Saggy has a new Head coach this season...came most recently from Ferris.

Saggy's new HC took several members of Ferris State's coaching staff to Saginaw.

Of course anytime you achieve to a high level, particularly in D2, you're going to lose coaches.
