What’s with the strong dislike for Newberry on this board? They returned a strong nucleus from last year, including one of the best RB’s in Division II if not the best. Their only loss was in a game in which they lost their 1st and 2nd string QB, and they just beat the team you had ranked #16. Looks like you didn’t even want to include them here. What do they have to do?

Their only loss was in a game in which they lost their 1st and 2nd string QB, and they just beat the team you had ranked #16. Looks like you didn’t even want to include them here. What do they have to do?

For me personally at least, the big reason is that CN loss. A loss is a loss in my opinion, I get that they had injuries but that doesn't justify a loss to a 3 and 5 team (whos other 2 wins are vs teams with a combined 3-13 record). I mean just looking here in the Midwest: Ferris has had their starter miss all but 2 games and won all but GV (including winning sat with 3rd string), Saginaw just won with a WR playing QB, Indy has had QB injuries and have only dropped to Saginaw. All that to say that IMO the top teams should be able to overcome vs inferior opponents. Also, yes the win vs LR is a big win vs a good team, but name another good win, I just don't see it yet. Outside of LR they don't have a win over a +500 team. Their second best win is a 2OT win vs 4-4 E&H, and the rest are well below 500 (and 3 of their 6 wins vs 500 or below were by 1 score). Now moving forward they have a chance to prove it, if they go 3 for 3 against Limestone, Wingate and MH they will be moving up in my rankings at least.

A little more on the Newberry loss - that RB did have 10 more yards (171) than the best RB for Limestone (Stewart at 161), but ran the ball 10 more times (30 attempts vs. 20 for Stewart). I'm not so sure he is the best RB in the SAC...

Limestone's offense gained nearly 140 more yards than Newberry as well.
