Don't think it was about money. Their wrestling programs are both in the RMAC and travel extensively, both M and W soccer programs due extensive travel as well as both hoops teams. The university has an endowment in excess of $600MM and an annual operating budget of $650MM and hosts over 30,000 students.

When I was at CWU in the early 80s, their T&F teams got to fly to all of the big meets in SoCal. They run things with class.
