The Mountain East Conference is taking a considerable hit (Alderson Broaddus closed, affiliate UNC Pembroke football is moving to another conference in 2025 and now Notre Dame College is closing). They're adding Point Park, but they don't have football.Originally posted by Argonut View PostThe enrollment cliff is real and unfortunately there will be many more schools joining Notre Dame over the next decade.Last edited by crixus; 03-02-2024, 11:29 AM.

Yup... it's already begun with small liberal arts colleges closing and clusters of small public schools consolidating. Just another domino falling.Originally posted by Argonut View PostThe enrollment cliff is real and unfortunately there will be many more schools joining Notre Dame over the next decade.
Gonna be curious who stays and who goes in the big shakeout.

Just wait until “student-athletes” are deemed employees. Can’t use sports as enrollment/revenue boosters when you have to pay the players.Originally posted by Argonut View PostThe enrollment cliff is real and unfortunately there will be many more schools joining Notre Dame over the next decade.“No matter how badly things get blown apart, we will always plant flowers again.”

I always feel bad when I hear about any college shutting down. I have family members that went to Alderson Broaddus University and when they closed it hit hard. Fortunately the former AB campus was purchased and has reopened as Battlers Knob. It will be used for office space, assisted living facility, wedding chapel, conventions, concerts, youth sports and semi-pro football. That's great news for the Philippi, WV economy.Originally posted by Argonut View PostThe enrollment cliff is real and unfortunately there will be many more schools joining Notre Dame over the next decade.

I remember there being talk that D2 was the long term plan back when I was there. Always figured that would mean a better basketball gym, but I don't see any indication that is the case. All 5 local public high schools in Merced/Atwater have significantly nicer gyms than UC Merced does. Soccer field is pretty nice.Originally posted by crixus View Post
Yep, you're getting up there. UC Merced is doing well, both academically and athletically. VERY good for them!
Academics always seemed to be heading in the right direction. Crazy how much campus has grown since I left in 2020.

Yes, it's grown a lot. And then there's the proximity to Yosemite NP. I went to SJSU, but if I were a student at UC Merced I'd go to Yosemite whenever possible.Originally posted by D2Rover View Post

Back when I was finishing my AA I was looking at the UC system as a possible landing spot and tried to familiarize myself with as many of their campuses as I could - kinda glad I didn't go through with it purely for the debt factor, but it would have been a blast.
I'm not sure if they had sports back then or not, so it's cool to get that confirmation.

If you're 30 years old or more you're supposed to be dead. See this classic movie! I was 16 when it came out and the premise gave me the creeps. :DOriginally posted by SW_Mustang View Post
