In the CIAA this week the Bowie State at WSSU and the Fayetteville State at VA State games will probably be two competitive games to watch.

For the upcoming week in the NSIC - Augustana and Moorhead is the game to watch. And the only one this week since Wayne has a bye.

#23 Wingate at Carson-Newman was a great game. 31-28 in OT.

Pitt/Washburn was insane. The first quarter was like nothing I've ever seen.

The two CIAA games ended up going down to the wire. WSSU hit a FG with 3 seconds left to win over VA State 15-14, and JCSU fought off a late surge by VUU and was able to run the clock out to win 21-16.

Minot @ Mankato fell a bit flat. 40-6 Mavericks.

    NSIC -

    Bemidji/Sioux Falls
    Wayne/Winona

My personal GOTW - the battle of the MSUs. I think Kato runs away with it, but we'll get to see what this Minot team is made of.

Minot State @ Minnesota State will be an interesting one. The last time Minot started a season 3-0 was over 20 years ago, when they were still NAIA. I can't say I expect them to beat the mighty Mavericks, but depending on how close they can keep the score, it could tell us whether they just got lucky with an easy schedule draw or if they actually came to play.

Ouachita Baptist @ Southern Arkansas - first time this matchup has been played in Magnolia in 9 years. The previous 3 times S Arkansas was to host it was held in El Dorado as part of Murphy USA Classic.

West Alabama @ West Florida - series tied 4-4, West AL trying to build on their fast start to the season.

Missouri Western @ Emporia - interesting to see if there is a let down from emporia after their big road win last week.

Arkansas Tech @ Henderson - does Ark Tech catch Henderson looking ahead to their big matchup with Harding next week?

Central Oklahoma @ Nebraska-Kearney - these teams were picked 7th and 10th in the conference - one of them is going to start off 3-0.

Central Missouri @ Davenport - probably the best non-conference match up this week. It's a long trip for UCM and Davenport hasn't lost to anybody not named Ferris or Grand Valley in over two years.

Bemidji @ Sioux Falls - two historically good teams that are usually in contention for a playoff spot.

Virginia Union @ JC Smith - it wasn't that long ago JC Smith couldn't win 2 games all season. They are 3-0 and got a postseason bowl game last year. I'm interested to see if they can hang with VUU which has been the class of the CIAA for a decade.

There was some random fact a few years ago, that teams after playing the 49'ers had more plays listed on the injury report - regardless of week of the season, than any other opponent. Point was, San Francisco was super physical and it took teams a little longer to recover after that game than others. It's not that those opponents were out of shape or unprepared.

In this case, I think Mankato has had to play more physically, for full games, with more emotional outcomes compared to Wayne. I'm certain that Mankato is strong, physical, in shape, etc. But I think this week it has the potential to be an issue that it wouldn't be in another two weeks.

    NSIC:

Moorhead/Duluth - Top QB matchup, possibly even nationally
    Wayne/Mankato - Top all-around matchup
SDSU/Augie - An oddity for the ages. SDSU will run away with it, but there's a whole lotta history here unlike most FCS/DII matchups.

Tiffin @ Lenoir-Rhyne - This ought to be an interesting game to watch as it was pointed out that it's the first time these two teams have played each other/
Ashland @ Ferris - The Bulldogs might bite the Eagles, but this matchup, if Ashland wins, will be a serious blow to Ferris State.

Agree. But if they are mentally shot after 2 games, it was never going to happen anyway. Wayne is also a top team in the NSIC, shouldn’t be difficult to understand the challenge at hand and get mentally prepared. I’d be more worrieed about that after this game. Games against Minot and Concordia before facing off with Sioux Falls.
