You actually can transfer out of a service academy if you do so before your junior season. Army's best running back from last season, Kanye Udoh, transferred to Arizona State for '25.

Yea I looked that up. You are correct. Really surprised they would allow you to leave the military after two years, but they do. I am sure it is pretty frowned upon though. That would be two years of free education (for anyone attending) unless they made you pay it back. Not like anyone can just get into one of the academies though.

I tried to find a clip of it but comedian Shane Gillis originally committed to Army and he talked about the process of transferring out, I remember he said it was a pretty brutal process.

My buddy was a student at the Air Force Academy, I assume the other service academies are similar. You can leave at any point during your first two years and not owe anything back. Once you start your junior year, and you leave, you then are on the hook for the entire value of the education you have received to date. The former cadet will owe thousands of dollars and/or will be required to enlist for several years.

I know he was at Annapolis UYS Naval Academy.

Staubach served his four year committment, including of tour of duty in South Vietnam. He was a rookie in the NFL at age 27. - per Wikipedia

NCAA DIII Virgina Wesleyan is changing their name to Batten University after a major benefactor.

In one article I read, they said these types of name changes are fairly uncommon in the modern age - though I'm not sure how true that is.

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if about half of those were paper courses for the football team. There are a lot of ways to get around the "student" half of "student-athlete" down south.

Personally, I once heard Arian Foster suggest the idea of offering "football" as its own major - and I think it's about time we explore that so we're not spending all this extra money on red tape. It's no less academic than "Beer Appreciation."

SMSU required us to take a course called "First Year Experience" which had a component all about university academics - how to write papers, how to use the library, etc. That's odd enough - but they made it a requirement for graduation without actually making it a requirement for freshman year. I'd been around for a few years part time by that point, and I know there was at least one graduating senior who had to listen to a full lecture on how to find books in the library

Each class had a topic along with it and mine was Baseball In Film - which was cool. We got to try on a Yankees World Series ring from the 1950s and one of my classmates is the GM at Wake Forest for the football team.
