That's a big crowd especially for a girl's game. Back when I was in High School hardly anyone went to girl's games, mostly family members. I'm glad that's changing because they play hard and appreciate support too.

Some of the "bigger" schools round here get a lot of support. Not much else to do in town and kinda far from anywhere that has something, I'd reckon.

That's a big crowd especially for a girl's game. Back when I was in High School hardly anyone when to girl's games, mostly family members. I'm glad that's changing because they play hard and appreciate support too.

My local high school's girls team finished 3rd in the state a couple of years ago. They outdrew the boys team, who frankly were not very successful. They pressed, ran a great fast break, and could hit threes. I cringe and shake my head when I hear fat slobs who averaged .5 points a game in HS say that girls can't play well.

They can play well for girls. That lousy boys team would beat the state-champ girls team 10/10 times. Just like a random under-15 boys soccer team beat the USWNT 5-2.

Correct. But it is all within context. Good competition is good competition as long as teams stay in their lanes. And I am not talking just about gender. FCS football teams have no business playing Power 4 teams. And the bottom feeder D1 bball teams have no business playing Power 4 teams either. But it is a money grab. They play those schools to get cash to help keep their athletic programs afloat. With NIL I feel the talent gap between lower level D1's and the top level will only grow larger. And if March Madness doesn't have its upsets, the allure of that tournament is going to lose its luster, at least to the casual fans who are not gambling.

Last year's March Madness was the perfect example. It might have been the most bland, predictable, "chalk-iest" tournament in my lifetime.

Yup! I've never been inside, but it's one of my favorite arenas in SD.

Sadly all people hear is D1. Yet there are a number of D1 programs that could not beat many D2 programs, in a variety of sports. Even some Power 4 schools have lost to D2's in exhibition men's hoops (Ohio State lost to Findlay, KWC beat Louisville). Now I don't know if the top D2 football teams could beat a Power 4 school, but I know they can beat a number of FCS schools.

It's easy to denigrate another state without revealing your exotic location. Life in the winter is the same old grind for most people.
