I saw that on the Big Mountain podcast today. Alright GCU, glad to have them on board this year. Good Men's & Womens basketball, baseball, softball and volleyball programs to name a few. One of my nieces went to GCU so now I can start up a Spartans vs Lopes rivalry with her. LOL

Doesn't this leave the other schools in the lurch or can schedules be changed so quickly? Not having football makes things much easier of course. Being in a conference for that last year also brings up the problem- are they eligible for post season play or not.

Yes and Yes. Both of your questions are answered in the podcast linked below.

Not unexpected. Tennessee State will NOT start men's hockey this year, hoping to start in 26-27.

            New update announced earlier today.

Jamestown Men's Volleyball joins the GLVC for the league's inaugural season.

Better late than never. One more year in the Big scheme of things, that's nothin'. Unless you're a Tennessee State fan. ;)

Just curious. Does any state in the south from Kentucky on down have high school hockey? I know high schools as far south as Ohio do, but didn't know beyond that.

Great question. I knew that Florida did.

I'm not surprised to see Florida and Texas on the list. There's lot's of Northern transplants in both states that probably promoted the sport for a long time to get it into the high school ranks.

There are some club (non-varsity) high school hockey programs, mostly centered around DFW and the Houston area, with some schools forming "co-op" teams (such as Flower Mound HS and Flower Mound Marcus HS) and others covering larger areas (the Denton County Spartans includes players from the Denton ISD, Lake Dallas ISD, Little Elm ISD, and three of the five Lewisville ISD high schools (Lewisville, Hebron and The Colony).

Pennsylvania has had it for years and also has classifications for state championships

Pennsylvania high school hockey is not sanctioned by the PIAA (and I don't get why, if we're being honest). Meanwhile, ice hockey is a varsity sport in New Jersey that's sanctioned by the NJSIAA.

The press release from the Membership Committee meeting is out. https://www.ncaa.org/news/2025/7/10/...rs-sept-1.aspx

Mixed results for the PacWest, as Jessup and Vanguard were allowed to skip Year 3 and become active members whereas Menlo must repeat Year 2.

All other schools advanced as expected, including Thomas More and USC Beaufort advancing to active membership and Middle Georgia State beginning the 3-year membership process (Ferrum was already accepted into the 2-year process).

I'm a big Los Alamos Hilltoppers guy - I guess that was a perk of commendearing the school was that the scientists had a place to skate around on.

It's not sanctioned under the NMAA though.

I found an old website - they used to provide rankings for 31 states (two for PA and NY), as well as an NE Prep category. Minnesota was last updated in 2015 though, so who knows how accurate any of that currently is.

The geographical outliers to me on the list are: Florida, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, New Mexico, Tennessee, and Texas. Notable absences were California, Washington, and Idaho.

Hockey is expanding rapidly where I live in South Dakota - you'd think it would be a bigger deal here like it is in North Dakota, but the state's history really only goes back about 25 years to the founding of the Sioux Falls Stampede. SoDak just picked up their first NHL draft pick this year too. Even if you're not an Oahe fan - you're excited for the guy.
