It's not clear if any of that "revenue" is from student fees.
But how can expenses outpace revenue? I get where the money might come from, but you shouldn't be losing money on hosting championship events, concessions, etc.

And college sports will have to find a way to keep operating like this. Title IX is going to make sure certain womens' programs remain, no matter how much money they lose.

Perhaps debt service or repair/maintenance costs were part of the expenses. It’s not a given that the revenue and expenses came from the same source.

Seems like a lot of wishful thinking here - I highly doubt a hockey crowd that feels scorned by their university will willingly fork over money to said university for a massive downgrade in their Friday night entertainment.

On the bright side, the fine folks of Erie, PA do have a watchable option in Gannon. Maybe they'll schedule Mercyhurst for a warm up game next season.
Considering the way Mercyhurst left the PSAC, you have a better chance of hell freezing over before Gannon - or any PSAC school - entertains the idea of playing Mercyhurst in a pre-season warmup or any other circumstance.

The only time the media feels compelled to cover SDSU baseball is when they have deep runs in the Summit League tournament - and I say this as someone who lives within walking distance of the Irv.

I know attendance isn't everything - but here's the '25/'26 attendance numbers (average / total) for the top six non-football college teams in SD:

          SDSU MBB: 2,808 / 36,507
          SDSU WBB: 2,766 / 35,962
          AU HKY: 2,747 / 57,685*
          NSU MBB: 1,885 / 24,504
          USD MBB: 1,470 / 24,991
          USD WBB: 1,629 / 30,959

*To be fair, 57,685 is a bit skewed because of the CCHA tournament being held on campus, which is not applicable to SDSU/USD/NSU.

I gathered from the map that Laker posted, it was based on the popularity of sports that included high school levels, not just hockey levels. With that in consideration, I am willing to guess that baseball is more popular in South Dakota than hockey is.... at least in the southern and western parts of the state. I know that youth level baseball is big time in Rapid City and baseball is played in small towns throughout, I am not sure high school hockey exists outside of the 4 largest cities in the state.

UNO will change their name to LSU-New Orleans and change their colors to purple and gold. I disapprove of the color change, maintain some of your own identity. They are a D1 school.

I know - but considering who we are talking about here, waiting for hell to freeze over to see Gannon play in Mercyhurst's janitor closet of an arena is still more of an exciting prospect than anyone they could possibly schedule for a home game.

Huh? His map showed hockey as the most popular college sport in SD behind football and basketball. There are as many D1 baseball teams as there are hockey teams, and the hockey one gets far more attention. I don't understand what high school has to do with it - especially given South Dakota doesn't sponsor either (I get that's semantics, but still).

As for the bolded - I get it's a broad generalization, but when the largest city in any given state is barely a wide spot in the road, that's going to happen. Though Carter Sanderson did play for Oahe and Watertown just built a gorgeous new barn for their franchise that routinely sells out, so it absolutely exists beyond SF/RC/Aberdeen/Brookings. It's the fastest growing sport in the state with a ton of money being poured in.
