I was curious, so I looked it up. I've never been to WSU, but I have been to Wichita and I like it.

They have done multiple new building or reno projects each year for over a decade. A bunch of those being corporate or federal partnership buildings so the U didnt even have to pay for them.

That was very hard for me to understand. But I do hope that they bring back football.

Hate seeing that. I lived across the street from the MWC office when I moved here.

A few years before that, around 2009 or 2010, I was working at Office Depot in their copy and print department and their AD Eric Sexton came in to get some printing and binding done. He had a similar helmet with him. It had a stylized WuShock on it. Anyways, he came in and I printed and bound a proposal book for bringing back Football. All I remember was he said it depended on a conference move that didn't happen for several years and he wanted to go straight to FBS. I told him I thought that was unwise and staying FCS would be easier to get the program started and would open up scheduling opportunities with area D2 schools. He didn't think too highly of easing in

Huge mistake on the part of WSU. You just can't go from nothing to FBS, you have to build things up. UTRGV is doing it the right way.

Are they still happy with being in the American? I'm not close enough to the situation to know- I just haven't heard much about their men's basketball for several years.

                  • Chicago State University Cougars football is moving from non-existence to reality in 2026. They'll play an independent FCS schedule this coming season and then join the Northeast Conference in 2027. Good luck!

I know that they have a fall schedule, but why they didn't have spring football is beyond me. Doesn't seem like they are ready.

                        • The MW Network which is a free streaming service for live and on demand Mountain West Conference sports is moving to a paid service called MW+ (powered by KISWE) as of July 1, 2026. Another cool freebie bites the dust. The article for MW+ doesn't mention a cost...but I guarantee it's comin'. I first heard about it on The Big Mountain podcast.

Note: This is graduation week at a lot of colleges & universities across the nation. *Congratulations to those of you graduating and best summer wishes to everyone.

                          • The president of the NAIA, Jim Carr, recently gave an interview with the Business of Small College Athletics (BOSCA). A lot of topics were touched on, and you can see the whole thing here, but of particular interest to this forum (at around the 10:06 timestamp):
Q: "Is there a 'most-common' path that [new NAIA members] are coming from?
A: "I put them in three buckets [. . .] right now [one of the buckets is] Division II and Division III. Last couple years, we've had, I think, 4 Division III schools move over... I'm not in a place to divulge exactly who I'm talking about, but I think in the next cycle we'll have a couple of Division II schools who are coming in"
The last time a D2 school moved to the NAIA was technically Ohio Valley in 2021, although they closed almost immediately after that. The next most recent D2 school to make the jump was Oakland City in 2020.

Chadron State really should consider it. We (I am an alum who lives in Chadron) are really struggling. We are struggling with enrollment and we are struggling to field any competitive teams in all the team sports.

Chadron State really should consider if the NAIA Frontier Conference will let them in as a full member.

I'm not sure of the number, but does the NAIA have a minimum on how few sports you can have? I'm looking at someone like Nevada State which only has a couple of sports so far. That might be appealing to some smaller schools.

It is interesting to compare maps of D2, D3 and NAIA schools to see which states have a lot or none.
