I'm not sure of the number, but does the NAIA have a minimum on how few sports you can have? I'm looking at someone like Nevada State which only has a couple of sports so far. That might be appealing to some smaller schools.

The minimum for NAIA is 6. That's why you so often see fledgling athletic programs (like Nevada State's) start out there as opposed to starting out in D2 or D3-- the less infrastructure you need to build beforehand, the easier it is to get your program off the ground.

Also announced yesterday, OCU's Sprint football team (three seasons completed with a 1-19 record) will not compete in 2026. And probably never will again, IMHO.

Surprised to not see this on here just yet. Maybe people are waiting for it to be finalized, but I think this is a done deal. Excited for schools to add this to their Athletic Department, looks like a nice win-win for Women Sports and schools looking to add on other programs for Title IX purposes.

Flag Football just became an Emerging Sport in January. It was expected that it's time in the program would be very short. There were 40 teams, which is already enough to earn championship status, in January and there are 44 now. Daemen also announced today that they are adding the sport. It will be a while before a division championship is established. Currently by division: 3 (I) - 15 (II) - 26 (III).

Azusa Pacific will be adding flag football as well on our way down. Multiple SCIAC schools already have it, so there may even be a conference title to compete for right off the bat.

Quite a few states have already or are in the process of sanctioning flag football as a sanctioned (by the state's high school athletics federation) varsity sport.

I wouldn't be surprised if the number of colleges which sponsor flag football reaches 100 within the next two or three years.

The MSFL is down to 4 teams this fall, two of which (CCSJ and Midway) are upgrading to regular NAIA football in 2027. That leaves Bellarmine and Quincy, the latter of which of course also has D2 football.

Hopefully they can join the CSFL which has been around since 1934. It would require more travel though. Not a whole lot more in the big scheme of things but I don't know what their budget$ are. MSFL and CSFL teams have played each other before. I'd rather see Bellarmine and Quincy join the CSFL than drop Sprint football altogether. I've been a fan of the sport since Alderson Broaddus first played (they have since closed the school).
