Andrew, Faulkner to Join AAC in Football in 2027 - Appalachian Athletic Conference

Looking at their football membership in 2027 on a map, they'll have a cluster of 5 Appalachian-based schools and a cluster of 4 Deep South-based schools, with a large Tennessee/North Carolina sized gap separating the two. Bit of an awkward setup, but I guess it works for them

After the briefest stint of indepenence, Colorado Mesa tennis will rejoin the PacWest next year.

The Southern States Athletic Conference (NAIA) is adding Women's Flag Football in the Spring of 2027.

Schools competing: Andrew, Wesleyan, Brewton-Parker Christian, Life, Point, Thomas, Tennessee Southern, Milligan and Reinhardt. Faulkner will begin play in 2028.

True, but it is only for football. Plus it evens out the scheduling with 8 conference games. For Faulkner and Andrew the trip to URG isn't too much farther away than playing the south Florida NAIA schools (Keiser, St. Thomas, Florida Memorial); maybe the travel is slightly better in the AAC than the Sun Conference for them.

Former D2 member NYIT, who announced in 2020 that they would be suspending their athletics programs for at least 2 years and still haven't brought them back, has finally announced a return to competition... Kinda.

They'll be starting a sprint football league and joining the non-NCAA Collegiate Sprint Football League, where a number of current D2 members in the Mid-Atlantic house their teams. No mention of returning to D2 competition, just talking about growing their other intramural and club sports, but one can dream, I guess.

I remember when NYIT was D1 in baseball while D2 in other sports. I saw them play a MBB game at the Pentagon in Sioux Falls several years ago.

Could this be next? Sources: The Coastal Athletic Association is in deep discussions with Fairfield about joining the league. The CAA has extended an invitation for full membership to Fairfield. While the deal is not finalized, Fairfield is expected to depart the MAAC/Metro in the near future for the CAA

My question is how will this effect further realignment? Obviously the MAAC/Metro is going to seek a replacement and the rabbit hole that goes down.

The MAAC/Metro has dipped into the NEC for their most recent additions, so that's a possibility. America East too. Don't think they would tap a D2 school, that seems to be the NEC's thing.

The Fairfield rumor is for them to be a full CAA member, so are they starting a football program again?

They should either make it official and get rid of athletics altogether outside of these club-ish programs or go D3.

I am pretty sure the CAA and CAA Football are actually two distinct entities.

UIndy To Join Great Midwest Athletic Conference in 2027

I have long been hoping for this move, it's a win-win for both UIndy and the GMAC, especially in football. I guess this puts to rest any UIndy to D1 rumors for now.
