All I remember was he said it depended on a conference move that didn't happen for several years and he wanted to go straight to FBS. I told him I thought that was unwise and staying FCS would be easier to get the program started and would open up scheduling opportunities with area D2 schools. He didn't think too highly of easing in
Huge mistake on the part of WSU. You just can't go from nothing to FBS, you have to build things up. UTRGV is doing it the right way.

Are they still happy with being in the American? I'm not close enough to the situation to know- I just haven't heard much about their men's basketball for several years.

Hate seeing that. I lived across the street from the MWC office when I moved here.

That was very hard for me to understand. But I do hope that they bring back football.

They have done multiple new building or reno projects each year for over a decade. A bunch of those being corporate or federal partnership buildings so the U didnt even have to pay for them.

I would think that if they went back to the Missouri Valley and played FCS, Wichita State could put together a competitive program pretty quickly. No FCS schools to compete with in Kansas or Oklahoma for talent, so as long as they could out-recruit the MIAA they would be in a pretty good position.

Window to do that seems to be closing with the stadium renovations.

Yep, I believe most people know the history of that (especially after the movie, 'We are Marshall' came out).
    A real tragedy for sure.

Both of my parents were from West Virginia and I definitely remember the Marshall crash. I was only ten years old but I remember my Mom was crying even though she went to WVU, the arch rival of Marshall at the time. They've quit playing each other in football (the Mountaineers are 12-0 against the Thundering Herd), but they still compete in Olympic sports. But I didn't even know about the Wichita State plane crash until they brought the topic of bringing football back a decade ago when that helmet was introduced. Both of those tragedies occured in 1970, about six weeks apart.
