New Rushing Record This Year?

During their 2023 run to the National Championship the Harding Bisons set a new collegiate rushing record with 6,160 rushing yards. That is an average of 410 yards per game.

This season they have reached 5,919 yards rushing in 13 games, which averages to 455 yards per game. They are 241 yards away from breaking the rushing record.

Looks quite likely they can possibly set a new total rushing record and do it in less games than in 2023.

Friends University in NAIA is currently averaging 470.1 yards rushing per game. They're also playing in the quarterfinals this week. But they've played one less game at 12-0 this season since they had a first round bye in the NAIA playoffs. They're the #4 seed playing the #5 seed this upcoming week.

It certainly is a great achievement. I have a love/hate relationship when I watch Harding. I hate watching the offense because it is boring to me. I love the intricacy and technical aspects of how they run it and how good it is, so I completely respect what they do.

If we're going to talk about "collegiate records" then it includes NAIA. And NAIA is more legitimate than NCAA D3. They give out scholarships just like D2 does.

Just because they offer scholarships does not make it more “legitimate” than D3. I have watched a ton of D3 and NAIA and though the top teams would be similar - there are a LOT of more jokes in NAIA. But that’s another discussion for another day. I do love all college football leagues.

I must have misread, I thought we were talking about the NCAA rushing record. Went back and reread - I was wrong!

Balance may be the wrong term. Because 2019 LSU didn’t have a perfect balance either. Maybe capable of moving the ball all ways is a more accurate description. That is more impressive, a more complete offense.

I have a hate/hate relationship when watching Harding. I hate watching the offense because it’s so boring and I hate what appears to be the simplicity of it. I know it’s not this simple but it appears that they have 6 plays……3 to the right and 3 to the left.

Of course, as a Harding alum and fan, I love watching Harding Bison football. Yet, I would think most fans of football would have a love/hate relationship with Harding football too.

Hate: because what Harding does is so good and it makes an opponent have to reach deep into their skill set to compete. It makes opponents have to really be confident that they have something that can at least slow down what the Bisons do.

Love: love both the simplicity of the plays and the precision by which they operate the Harding offense machine. Appreciation for being able to do what they do so well. When your team loses you know you have been beaten by the better team. No "coulda, woulda, shoulda" thinking, just pure appreciation for what occurred on the football field. On the other side of the ball the defense is a powerful force that pushes into the backfield and tracks down plays in the secondary.

Harding starts a drive from their own 1 yard line?
Bison fans -- they just expect Harding to move down the field.
Opponents -- they have reasons to be fearful in how the precision and efficiency of the Bison offense just buckles down and drives down the field and scores.

Flashly, long passes, no...just Harding doing something over and over again and doing it so well.
