  • EO - Max 5 years and 1 transfer option allowed.

I understand that most college head coaches are ecstatic.

Will this apply to Division 2 Football?

The order directs the NCAA to create rules that mandate college athletes can play for "no more than a five-year period" and allows them to transfer schools only once before they graduate without having to sit out a season. The rule changes are scheduled to go into effect Aug. 1. A school that plays an athlete who doesn't meet these new limits could risk losing its federal funding.

      https://www.espn.com/college-sports/...s-one-transfer

Multiple lawyers who work with colleges and their athletes told ESPN they believe that judges would rule the president's order to be unconstitutional and unenforceable if challenged in court.

IMO, something needed to be done. Both Football and Basketball have gotten way out of hand. It's coming down to 'he who has the most money is the ultimate master of the game and the players'. Loyalty and allegiance in sports is quickly becoming a thing of the past.

I don't disagree. I envision a system similar to the one proposed (though I would add an exception that if your coach leaves/is fired you can use the portal and that doesn't count against your one personal transfer, and approved medical redshirts shouldn't count against your five years). But an EO isn't going to cut it.

I agree with your post but add this thought. An EO most likely is NOT going to be the route but the EO does open up the discussion and possible route to amend the current trend in sports.

But if Congress could get their act together and pass a law, the judicial couldn't do anything about it. SOMETHING has to be done, because the current system is nothing but chaos and is destroying college sports.

There are approximately 2,000 'registered' college sports agents in the USA, with many more 'unregistered agents' lurking behind the scenes.

To be a registered agent, you must have a bachelor degree and pass a background check

Many agents could care less about college programs (and in some cases the players) as long as they are able to sell the players to the highest $$$ bidders and retain a slice of the pie.

I see this in college basketball.

So much for small gubmint. It’s cute that some people think everybody has to do what one person says via an order with no binding effectiveness. The TV Networks have more say…not to mention the big school conferences profiting from this will push back.😉

The big school conferences actually applauded it. Granted I am sure it is just lip service, but college sports is broken and something has to change.

Is it broken? Fake Indiana won a National Title that they would never have won in the past...when a few schools stacked all the talent. There was a lot of interest in the foosball playoffs...a lot better than some committee who picked mostly See Everyone Cheat schools.

Sure...the transfer portal rules need to be tightened up...but I like the fact the few schools that enjoyed the uneven playing field now have to work hard for it. The only President(s) that should be changing the rules...are the ones running the schools.

Executive Orders...LOL...when others issued them....it was a "problem".

BTW....guess which conference has now won most of the national titles this season? It's not the SEC. See what happens when everyone can pay out in the open and not one conference who did it under the table for years.....

"Several prominent college coaches and athletic figures, including Nick Saban, John Calipari, and Urban Meyer, have expressed support for President Trump's proposals to regulate Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) and the transfer portal. They advocate for a, "national standard" to replace the current, "piecemeal," NIL landscape, aiming to curb excessive spending and increase stability in college sports." ESPN

This is gaining traction with the movers and shakers.

Yes it is broken. When you have "college students" playing for 3 or more schools in a four year period, there is something wrong. Has nothing to do with the popularity of any particular sport. A number of D1 schools are struggling to break even on athletics, and I for one certainly don't want to see some sports cuts (especially the non-revenue ones) so the haves can have even more.
