95 percent of the teams are still eliminated from title contention every year during summer camp. Indiana University won the NC via Mark Cuban. There are a few very poor to mediocre programs that are now competitive because they have billionaire backing. And a few good to excellent programs that are now noncompetitive because they do not. All in all not much has changed as to the actual brands - maybe the addition or subtraction of a very few.

We are now just cheering for laundry. The schools are paying ballers to wear their logo and win. No one knows who these players even are anymore. They don't attend any classes. They are just a bunch of balling homies doing their thing for a semester, and then onto the next highest bidder, or when eligibility runs out, washing cars.

UNC is slashing $85 million for its academic and research budget, yet their baller budget has increased $67 million in the last 4 years. They ran a $14 million deficit last year. This isn't college sports anymore. It's money ball. I love me some pro sports, but funding it from college students and their parents, and at the expense of higher education, is pretty screwed up.

Nope, the greed driving today's NIL and transfer clown show has opened the door of destruction of college sports for many schools.

Greed has been destroying college sports for a long time.

March Madness really was the starting point. The expansion of the field made schools who aren't really D1 schools to move up to chase that money.

March Madness has weakened Division 2. Look at how many schools moved up...because of basketball...only to fade into obscurity in D1.

The Gulf South Conference had been pushed into extinction for foosball because all those former schools thought moving up was a good idea....and is Troy and Jacksonville State doing anything these days? North Alabamastan? West Florida might be glad to move up but they will fade into the masses too....I mean Central Florida is bigger, in a bigger market, plays in a bigger stadium, and they had one little run and they are now what? Who here thinks Central, South or West Florida will ever challenge Florida, Florida State and Miami? IUP played Central Florida in the D2 playoffs in 1987.

These schools had to spend more money to move up and they aren't winning anything? For what...some basketball money and maybe a chance to be a 15 or 16 seed once every 15 years in March? I'm glad IUP remains a "dink" school and stays within the actual D2 model....

Actually heard an interview with Charlie Baker this morning on college sports radio. Not sure when he gave that interview. He said the number in the D1 football transfer portal was down about 25 percent from the year before. Not sure if that is valid or not. That suggests to me there was less "hopping" by upperclassmen after their first hop. While I think that might be the case for football, I think it will get worse in basketball though. With unlimited free agency and not as many overall bball athletes compared to how many play football, money can go further.

Coaching plays a part in that too which is why Basketball and Football have not reached their potential at Texas Tech except for Softball.
