All schools at all levels are using the portal to find ballers, or they aren't competitive. Who is mad at Indiana and Texas Tech again? I guess I missed that one.

A large percentage of players in this year's (2026) transfer portal are players brought in from European and African countries.

Actually heard an interview with Charlie Baker this morning on college sports radio. Not sure when he gave that interview. He said the number in the D1 football transfer portal was down about 25 percent from the year before. Not sure if that is valid or not. That suggests to me there was less "hopping" by upperclassmen after their first hop. While I think that might be the case for football, I think it will get worse in basketball though. With unlimited free agency and not as many overall bball athletes compared to how many play football, money can go further.

I heard that a plan for fixing college sports will be done in “ two weeks”. 🤣🤣🤣🤣

Greed has been destroying college sports for a long time.Originally posted by Eagle74 View PostNope, the greed driving today's NIL and transfer clown show has opened the door of destruction of college sports for many schools.
March Madness really was the starting point. The expansion of the field made schools who aren't really D1 schools to move up to chase that money.
March Madness has weakened Division 2. Look at how many schools moved up...because of basketball...only to fade into obscurity in D1.
The Gulf South Conference had been pushed into extinction for foosball because all those former schools thought moving up was a good idea....and is Troy and Jacksonville State doing anything these days? North Alabamastan? West Florida might be glad to move up but they will fade into the masses too....I mean Central Florida is bigger, in a bigger market, plays in a bigger stadium, and they had one little run and they are now what? Who here thinks Central, South or West Florida will ever challenge Florida, Florida State and Miami? IUP played Central Florida in the D2 playoffs in 1987.
These schools had to spend more money to move up and they aren't winning anything? For what...some basketball money and maybe a chance to be a 15 or 16 seed once every 15 years in March? I'm glad IUP remains a "dink" school and stays within the actual D2 model....
North Dakota State moved up successfully in FCS...but they won't dominate in FBS. Do their other sports make any noise in D1?
So college sports...as many of us knew in the 1980's...is long gone. March Madness...was the starting point for all of this....and once foosball had a playoff...there was no turning back as that was only going to up the ante on the greed.
How bad is the school jumping in baseball? I mean kids have the option to play minor league ball if they get drafted out of high school....

It was money ball when the SEC payrolls were enabling them to dominate every year. It was just they were forced to stay. It’s free agency now. So make rules to tighten it up.Originally posted by MooseLodge View Post
95 percent of the teams are still eliminated from title contention every year during summer camp. Indiana University won the NC via Mark Cuban. There are a few very poor to mediocre programs that are now competitive because they have billionaire backing. And a few good to excellent programs that are now noncompetitive because they do not. All in all not much has changed as to the actual brands - maybe the addition or subtraction of a very few.
We are now just cheering for laundry. The schools are paying ballers to wear their logo and win. No one knows who these players even are anymore. They don't attend any classes. They are just a bunch of balling homies doing their thing for a semester, and then onto the next highest bidder, or when eligibility runs out, washing cars.
UNC is slashing $85 million for its academic and research budget, yet their baller budget has increased $67 million in the last 4 years. They ran a $14 million deficit last year. This isn't college sports anymore. It's money ball. I love me some pro sports, but funding it from college students and their parents, and at the expense of higher education, is pretty screwed up.
Billionaires writing checks for college sports isn’t new. What was Oregon before the Nike money rolled in?
People are just mad that a billionaire made a perennial patsy into a bully and upset the entitled blue blood apple cart. Funny how people love the moron who issued the EO for smashing up things and making people mad about it but they get mad when it’s a billionaire they don’t like and a patsy they can’t bully no longer.
Doesn't our current champion in D2 foosball use the portal to reload each season?Last edited by IUPNation; 04-07-2026, 07:17 PM.

The 2014 Final Four was in the Jerrydome which is bigger than the airport hanger used as a football stadium in Indy.Originally posted by Eagle74 View Post
Record NC game attendance was over 79 thousand back in 2014 (prior to NIL and out of control transfers). Last night, attendance was less than 71 thousand. Yep, take me back to the good ole days.

You mean the Real Indiana University in Indiana, PA. They named the state after it…😉Originally posted by LakerDad View Post
When you continually use the phrase "Fake Indiana University", you are referring to that dink, irrelevant school in Pennsylvania that could not come up with its own name but hoisted the name from a few states over, right?
That dink school still has a 6-1 series record in foosball vs Grand MAC Valley. Congrats on your D1 MAC champion ladies basketball team taking the D2 title…and IUP as the runner up gets recognition for being the best actual D2 ladies team. 😉Last edited by IUPNation; 04-07-2026, 07:05 PM.

What was fun seeing an over stacked Alabamastan in the title game every year? What was fun seeing four hand picked teams in the playoffs? What is fun knowing 95 percent of the teams in FBS were eliminated from title contention in summer camp?
Fake Indiana University breaking out of forever futility and crushing it was amazing to watch. They did it with players that were older…but no blue chips. It was awesome.
Students getting paid cuts back on them
leaving after one or two seasons for the draft. In fact no league should be drafting anyone under 22 in any sport….

Indeed there does. Read a tweet today that over 25% of the women in the transfer portal were already in the portal before. So basically you have players that will now be going to their THIRD school. Some even their fourth. Apparently getting a quality education from a good school is a secondary priority now, which is sad because that degree is going to make a big difference long-term, not a little money that will be gone by the time they are 30.

Thankful for this EO. However, there needs to be a permanent law or solution in place when the courts strike it down.

Most people who love college sports fully comprehend and support the much needed ruling, but there's always some who just can't look past the messenger for anything good. I'm good with that.

The BIG schools have more money….
If you want things to go back to the way they were..tonight’s title game should be played in a regular arena in front of 20000 people instead of a foosball stadium in front of 60000.
