  • Heat?

The Colorado Mines at Washburn game in Topeka ended in a 16 to 16 overtime tie. The game was called due to heat. Has this ever happened ever, on any level? Considering overtime 2pt conversions starting with the 3rd overtime, I am surprised they didn't just stick it out.

I saw that the game had a 9am local time start and still couldn't be played fully to beat the heat.

Why couldn't they just reschedule to a night game?

You can be 100% certain if this was an FBS matchup it wouldn't be called for heat.

The broadcast team stated that it was a MIAA rule. So I guess if you have problem with the decision then you might want to contact the MIAA board.

I don't have a problem with the decision. I was just curious. Don't be such an ass.

It believe it was originally a noon game, then they did initially did move it back to 7pm I believe. After some consideration it was still supposed to be really hot at 7 and Mines didn’t really want to travel back that late so they settled on 9am.

There needs to a consistent rule. Hard to explain a tie when Tulsa/OSU are playing game on a turf that's 160 degrees but TV is going to trump everything though.

NWMSU had a night game in Kingsville TX last week. Trip was over 1,000 miles, partly by air, partly by bus…they got home around noon the next day…seems like a pretty flimsy excuse for the Mines coach refusing a night game

At this point I think a big question is: “What affect do ties have on SoS and NPI?

As far as I can tell this was the only college football game in the country that was cancelled…not the best look for D2

It was the MIAA policy, it'd be good to hear from them.

The miaa does have a practice policy, but I haven't heard of it being applied to a game situation before.

The humidity would have had to be Hella high in Topeka yesterday for the wet bulb to come into play. I think wbt at the start of the Pitt game was only around 79 with ambient at 101.

Pitt has only had 1 or 2 practices moved indoors this season that I know of.

I also remember an afternoon game against tamc a few years ago in 100 plus degree heat. It wasn't canceled.

92.5 wet bulb must be a fairly rare condition.

Maybe Colo. Mines pulled this from thin air.
Currently awaiting a final decision on the status of the game. The air temperature is now 99 with a heat index of 108, and MIAA rules prevent resuming play as long as wet bulb temperatures remain in an unsafe range.

Chadron, being in the RMAC has some of the longest road trips in the nation. All of their teams would have several long red-eye trips during the year. Just sayin'.
