GMAC Playoff Matchups

With the dust settling, three GMAC Teams will suit up to try and keep their season alive. This is the first time in conference history that the GMAC will be represented by multiple teams (thanks Inkblot). The Week One matchups for the GMAC are:

Minnesota Duluth @ Ashland - Ashland has a 10-1 team coming in to town. This looks like it will be a good matchup.

Minnesota St @ Findlay - Two Minnesota teams will be making the trip to Ohio, as an 8-3 Minn St will come to Donnell. Another game that should be fun to watch.

Northwood @ Ferris State - Northwood gets in as the 8-seed, and are rewarded with a trip to Big Rapids, to take on the defending National Champions.

Rooting for all GMAC teams this weekend.

Hoping definitely for all the GMAC schools to win.

Anytime a private school can beat a state school with all the money and resources they have, especially in football, it is a good day!

I think they will. I think Northwood will perform better than people may think. Not at all saying they will win, but they will not just back down.

I don't think seeding matters much after the top 4, NCAA was penny pinching. My take is NU should have been a 6 seed and sent to Uindy but the NCAA would have had to fly Truman to FSU so they flipped them to save money.

Not sure you save money sending two Minnesota teams to Ohio. If that was part of the rationale at least one Minnesota team would have been in the top four.

They're not allowed to change the top 4, but they can send the 5–8 seeds anywhere.

I guess if I am Minnesota Duluth having one less loss I question why Ashland is #4. I know Ashland beat IUP and Northwood, two tournament teams. They also lost to two tournament teams in region. But not complaining because 3 GMAC teams (2 hosting) is pretty impressive.

I think you answered your own questions. Ashland played 4 teams that made the playoffs this year. Probably more than anyone in the region. They went 2-2. Not sure anyone else in this region had a better strength of schedule.

And Findlay went 3 - 0 against playoff teams..... then lost to their rival in under a minute. Sort of like Ohio State losing to Michigan when Michigan has no business beating them (at least 3 of the last 4 years).

It will be interesting to see how these matchups play out. Mankato has played in a championship semi recently, and the conference has produced some good teams. Should be a good measurement. I know they seem pretty confident on their board, which I don’t blame them necessarily.

According to Inkblot, UIndy had the best SOS in the region (.560) followed closely by Ashland (.556). UIndy also got no SOS credit for their opening win over Marian, undefeated since then (10-1) and currently #6 in the NAIA.

For both teams, having tough OOC games really paid off.
