Oilers Name New Head Coach : Tyler Johns

Oilers have officially named Tyler Johns as Coach Allen’s replacement. Although this will be Johns’ first official head coach role, he recently served as interim at Gardner-Webb and has also had some success in OC roles. Johns has Oiler ties as a player (09-12), where he was a 2012 All GLIAC Lineman.

Excited for the hire. Oilers background and a young guy to hopefully retain some excitement and keep some key players. Looking forward to what Coach Johns can do.

I'll chime in. I think this is a hire that has a lot of positives. Tyler is a younger head coach that, yes its' his first head role, but he's learned under a proven offensive mind in Cris Reisert who just got the OC job at Toledo. That's a positive. Also, he was likely weeks if not days away from being a Division I head coach at Gardner-Webb. That endorsement says a lot about the caliber of coach Findlay is getting.

While he was at Tiffin and ODU, those teams put up some BIG numbers and had elite players, mainly at the QB position and offensive line. Look forward to that again as our QB play at UF has been inconsistent and not super explosive lately. Lastly, if you're looking for continuity, bringing in someone who played for Coach Allen, knows how to recruit the area, knows all about Findlay and its' rivalries...this seems like a no-brainer.

Interested to see the staff he puts together and how recruiting goes in what is now a shortened timeline. Hope for early success but seems like we won't really know what kind of coach he is until year 2 and beyond, obviously.
