Truly a massive pickup for the GMAC. Adding University of Indianapolis adds another top tier program for the conference, centrally located geographically within the current footprint. Can't stress enough what a great day this is for the GMAC. -
It is a great get. And UIndy probably didn't want to deal with a bunch of public universities in the GLIAC being they are private.
They probably will never get Gannon broke away from the PSAC, but that would be the other university I would love to see in the conference.Comment

To me, the surprise wasn't so much that UIndy is moving to the GMAC, it's that it took as long as it did. I'm pretty sure these rumors have been floating for several years at least.Cal U (Pa.) Class of 2014Comment

I think UIndy was considering a move to D1, so I think that was what part of the delay was. They were the easternmost team in the GLVC. Now they will be the westernmost team in the GMAC but no school will be more than 5 and a half hours away.Originally posted by ctrabs74 View PostComment

Will need one more football school to come in too and keep the schedule balanced. Always here that Davenport will bolt GLIAC since they are a private school. Couple of solid NAIA teams in an Indiana to pick from, mainly Marian and Indiana Wesleyan who could make the jump. Or maybe KWC leaves for GLVC and it becomes more of a trade.

I don't think the GMAC would mind KWC leaving. I do expect 1 or 2 GMAC schools to not be around much longer. Ursuline who is now part of Gannon says they will maintain athletics, but there has been chatter that is not the case. Ohio Dominican is the other one. They are in dire financial straits, and most likely will be the next Ohio Catholic school to close up after Notre Dame College and Lourdes.have already done so.Comment

The rest of the GMAC teams are pretty stable, but all the teams above except Malone and Ursuline have football teams and the GMAC couldn't afford to lose that many of them.
Curious what Rio Grande is up to. Could a move to D2 be coming since they just brought back football? They would be a candidate for the Mountain East or the GMAC.Comment

So Ursuline fired a salvo against the GMAC. I got news for them. The conference indecision is not why athletes are not going there. Makes a good excuse though on why they ultimately will get rid of athletics there.

Unless there is some big piece of information that the press hasn't picked up on that would sway me, I'm disappointed in the G-MAC for trying to force Ursuline out. They are a founding Member of the G-MAC and created the conference that everyone enjoys today. I really think Ursuline deserves better.
The two big reasons for the G-MAC trying to push them out (as listed in the press) are: 1) they only have women's teams, and 2) they no longer qualify for membership because they are no longer an autonomous institution. Well, nothing has changed regarding the first point. When UC helped create the G-MAC, they only had women's teams. As for point number two, I'm not sure why this is a sticking point. The NCAA has already approved Gannon and Ursuline having separate athletic departments. Are they concerned that Gannon will be self-serving and unfairly funnel resources/athletes/coaches to the mothership? I mean; I guess that could happen, but that is theoretical. If that's it, can we let it play out a bit before axing a founding member? D3 has whole conferences of UW and Penn State branch campuses that compete against each other. Pennsylvania Western has been operating separate athletic departments in the PSAC for a while now. It's being done. A small school like UC relies heavily on student athletes to survive. Gannon and UC have every reason to keep the UC athletic department as healthy as possible.
Again, I hope there is some big piece of info that we don't have that makes this make more sense.Comment
