  • Notre Dame - Hillsdale

As I start to look at NDC, a couple of things stick out. Super at running the ball (1st), last in the league at defending the pass. Doesn't seem like the Falcons throw much. Is this because they haven't had to or just don't want to?

McLaughlin is definitely special and requires extra attention. Hillsdale did a decent job against KU's 2X PSAC East 1st teamer Craig Reynolds by limiting him to 59 yards rushing but he picked up 75 as a receiver on 7 grabs out of the backfield as well. A lot of that had to do with game script after Hillsdale got up 2 scores in the second half and KU pretty much gave up the run all together. That was the game plan from the beginning. Just wondering how that translates to Saturday.

How have other schools attacked the Falcons?

Hillsdale by 2 scores....MEC is weak and ND played nobody out of conference....Tailback big numbers against bad teams, would be surprised if Hillsdale loses...If there were point spreads Hillsdale by 7.5....

IUP/PSAC fans are funny. This Notre Dame team is very good. They just missed the playoffs in 16 & 17. They beat Shepherd to start the season. They beat a very good Fairmont State team on the road. Their RB is special and no one in the region compares to him except the RB at Edinboro. Notre Dame RB is faster/explosive/elusive.

              So, let's see here.

GMAC Coach of the Year Keith Otterbein vs. MEC Coach of the Year Mike Jacobs
GMAC Player of the Year QB Chance Stewart vs. MEC Player of the Year RB Jaleel McLaughlin

Hillsdale OL anchored by GMAC O Lineman of the Year C Drew Callahan - NDC OL anchored by Upshaw Award finalist C Austin Treneff
Hillsdale DL anchored by GMAC D Lineman of the Year Zach VanValkenburg - NDC DL anchored by MEC Defensive Freshman of the Year Jack Kosko

Hillsdale - 9 1st Team All-GMAC - QB, WR, TE, OL, OL, DL, LB, DB, K vs. 6 NDC 1st Team All-MEC WR, OL, OL, DL, LB, DB,

Some great matchups and both clubs do certain things at an elite level.

I'm picking the Chargers for obvious reasons but mainly because a great passing offense can generate points a lot more often than a great rushing offense. Hillsdale has more playmakers defensively too with GMAC DB of the year Wyatt Batdorff and LBs Jay Rose and Nate Jones.

CB, once again you've done the research. For those of you that don't know CB, and I've posted this before, he's one of the most knowledgeable posters anywhere on D2football.com. Certainly respected in both the GLIAC and GMAC. Nice comparison of both teams.

Full Matchups for 25 Statistical Categories. Hillsdale has advantage in 12, Notre Dame in 13. Obviously it matters what categories but the split shows things should be pretty even.

I tried to paste the chart but it wouldn't format correctly.

Did you include this one? Especially since it helps put the other ones in perspective.

                          Notre Dame's opponents - 49-70
                          Hillsdale's opponents - 57-59

That says something when your biggest games come against your best opponents.

Let's hope this turns out to be oddly reminiscent and history repeats itself. The last time these two schools played, Pedro Powell was coming off of a 240 yard night against #4 Grand Valley at Lubbers and Hillsdale held him to just 30 yards. Obviously both clubs are vastly different but it shows you big numbers against good opponents don't always translate to W's.

The biggest thing that scares me is that the Shepherd kid threw for 5 bills and they still lost. Sounds like turnovers were huge in that game. Chargers need to protect the ball and hold serve every possession while trying to create take aways themselves. Both teams are impressive in turnover margin with ND being #5 in the nation and Hillsdale being #12.

No, but I don't hate it.
