Some context on our coach. He took over a program that had finished 2-8 in 2004 and imediately led them to a 6-5 record in 2005. That was the first year of six straight winning seasons. And it wasn't just that they won, it was how they often won...HUGE offense with 70 point contests often occuring on Saturday. At the same time this was happening, a little somthing, somthing was brewing in the ARSC under a then new basketball coach named Crutchfeld who was ALSO putting up fantastic offensive numbers. While Amedro is rightfully the face of this era, it should be noted that the first two winning years were under two other QB's in Jay Guillon and Nash. Guillon in particular was a very prolific passer and set WLU on the winning road before handing off to Amedro. Over the course of the first 6 years under Guillon and then Amedro, WLU's new HC went 46-22 (.677), topped 50 points on 10 occasions and averaged 36 points per game. So that is the backdrop on the HC's first six seasons. While the rise was meteoric over the first six years, the crash was equally dramatic and shows no sign of ending. Over the next 10 years, including this spring season, WLU has gone a combined 37-64 (.366), has topped 50 points only twice, averages 23 ppg and has had only two seasons were they topped .500.

Man, Glenville must really be bad!

OK...2-2 on this abreviated season. Better than AB (which I think we knew), not nearly as good as NDC (again, think we knew that), not as good as Wheeling (a little surprised by that) and clearly better than Glenville (a mild surprise). Guess with the current state of WLU football, I guess we should look at a 500 finish with glee and excitement!!

It just goes to show you with a full compliment of schollies and above average facilities you can beat winless teams. The original schedule was to play Fairmont and Frostburg they probably both would beat WL. We were not scheduled to play Glenville. So if we played the original schedule our record would be 1-4. AB win, and losses against Notre Dame, Fairmont, Frostburg and Wheeling. It's hard to believe that a second year program manhandled WL. Sad, Sad, Sad.

If WLU was consistently 500, I'd still be upset, but not to the extent that I am right now. It seems like WLU going 6-5 has turned into a reason to pop champaigne corks...It's akin to winning a championship! As Truman's saying goes, the buck stops here. Any way you cut it, the HC shoulders all the responsibility for the staff he has hired, the players recruited, the coaching these players receive and the product they put on the field. After 10 years of .366 performance, it is clear that he either doesn't know how to produce a winning team or doesn't really care to do the things necessary to produce one. Either way, he needs to be gone...and until he is gone, things will not improve.

Concerning Wheeling's football arc...That's how most new football teams are formed. Year 1, recruit for the fall season and have a spring practice...Year 2, play an exabition schedule...Year 3, first year of "real" DII football. Still is a big indicator of the quality of WLU's team as compared to Wheeling's that they can beat us so handily in their second real year of football. Also remember that last season (2019) the lost to us by 3 points in their first "official" game! Don't know any other way to look at it than a total embarisment.
