  • MEC Football Media Day 2019 - July 30

The MEC Media Day is next Friday. So what question(s) would you ask of your particular HC or of the Commissioner if you were at the event??

Does the MEC intend to aggressively grow the league or are you content to stand pat for the time being ?

I didn't know Phillips was even a question mark.

        Question I'd like to ask:

Is the conf trying to get any programs that would give the most distant programs (NDC, Urbana and UNCP) closer "dance partners?" Say a program in Ohio and VA or NC.

        AND:

The conf by laws require all members to sponsor football. Does the MEC expect D&E to start football to be in compliance with the by laws??

I think there is no chance of an Ohio school going to the MEC and D&E starting football made me LOL.

Preseason Coaches poll has NDC set to win the MEC crown again. NDC collected 10 of 11 first place votes to far outdistance #2 choice Fairmont.

              https://mountaineast.org/news/2019/7...champions.aspx

Seem to be three tiers...two teams in "Tier 1" with 90+ points, NDC and Fairmont...Tier 2 between 50 and 75 includes WVS, UC, Urbana, WLU and Glenville...Tier 3 less than 37 points - Concord, Frostburg, WVW, Wheeling University.

The conference listed the voting as follows:

                      Preseason Poll
                      1. Notre Dame (10) -- 100
                      2. Fairmont State (1) -- 91
                      3. W.Va. State -- 75
                      4. Charleston -- 74
                      5. Urbana -- 64
                      6. West Liberty -- 52
                      7. Glenville State -- 50
                      8. Concord -- 37
                      9. Frostburg State -- 26
                      10. W.Va. Wesleyan -- 23
                      11. Wheeling -- 13

I'm trying to figure out how the points were weighted by ranking in the poll. Anyone have any ideas how ND has 10 first place votes and 100 total points?

First place vote counts for 10 points, second 9, third 8...last place "vote" counts 0?

Coaches weren't allowed to vote for their own teams so everybody had a 10-team ballot. Notre Dame was unanimous No. 1. Fairmont a unanimous No. 2.

NDC and Fairmont finished last season 1 and 2 in the MEC so no surprise they were picked in those spots this year. WVS jumping two spots and over UC is a little surprising but when you consider #3 Shepherds departure, it's not really that big of a move (although moving ahead of UC is still a surprise). Urbana jumped two spots from their #7 finish to the #5 ranking. The biggest mover is WLU that has been picked to finish #6 moving up from their #9 finish last year. Frostburg slotted in at #9 is not really surprising but it does indicate what the coaches think of WVW and WU.

                              Biggest movers:

                              Up - WLU (+3)
                              Down - Glenville (-1)
                              No Change - NDC (1), Fairmont (2), UC (4)
