Shep and NDC competed in the MEC together for 6 years. Shep finished ahead of NDC in 5 of those 6 years. Shep won the conference 4 out of the 6 years it existed; and the other 2 years they were 2nd and 3rd. Shep was the flagship of the MEC for football. No argument about it.

I'm more curious to see with the coaching change and after this year, the post Chris Brimm NDC team. Brimm has been fantastic and is an all timer for the conference, tremendous leader. Will be interesting to see if they can keep the ship rolling once he moves on.

Yes, they WERE the flag ship. but they lost that status when NDC took the conference title from them in 2018. We don't know if Shepherd would have regained the crown or not because they chose to leave the conference at that point.

It would be like Cheyney fans saying that they are the dominant team in the PSAC basketball because they won a National Championship. Or Fairmont bosting that THEY were the WVIAC football top dogs because they won 17 Conference Titles and won a National Championship to boot.

Brimm is a good one, no doubt. Soooo steady and poised. What I'm interested in is how the new coach at NDC (Garrett Mack) and Frostburg (Eric Waggoner) handle things. Both are replacing pretty dynamic and successful HC's who went on to D1 as and OC and HC respectively. Neither new HC has been a HC at the college level so it will be interesting to see if there is any drop off or learning curve!

It's time for NDC to be "involuntarily removed" by the MEC, like the MIAC did to the Saint Thomas Tommies. Just kidding. I think that was classless move. Kicking a team out because they beat your butt, year after year after year, etc.
