I realize that WL is extremely bad, however we had to listen to the Shepherd people for years on their dynasty. Now I wonder if Shepherd is now the WL of the PSAC. I'm enjoying their 0-3 start.

Shepherd benefited form outstanding QB play from 3 consecutive starters in Zemeiba, Jessup (in the years leading up to their departure from the MEC and then Bagnett their final MEC season and first 3 seasons in the PSAC. ALL were outstanding and Shepherd road them to great heights. Now they are gone and the QB play, while not bad overall, has not been enough to sustain them as a top team in the PSAC. Given their loss at the hands of Frostburg this season, one wonders if they would be a contender in the MEC.
Shepherd is learning a lesson that WLU learned a long time ago. The most important position to in field success is QB play. If you have a great one, your team will be great and if you don't, your teams W/L record will suffer.
Clearly WLUs coaching staff stumbled into one great one by blind luck. Shepherd on the other hand had 3 in a row. The true question is did the coaching staff just get lucky 3 times in a row or are they great QB recruiters who have just missed a couple of times?Comment

Ziemba I'll give them credit for. The Bagent thing was incredible luck, his parents were Shepherd Alums and thankfully the flagship university in the state WV had no interest in him. Even though he was the state Gatorade player of the year. He had some FCS offers, but from what i've heard, when the FBS schools shunned him, he was pretty much decided on Shepherd. Jessup was the most talented QB in the country for 2 years, as a back up (he was better than Ziemba) but had to sit and wait for Ziemba to finish so he could get his one year in as a senior starter.Originally posted by boatcapt View Post
Coaching losses have magnified some of the recruiting misses as well. Coach Faunteroy who is now at Morgan State, had a very influential hand in getting a bunch of the PG/DC and Baltimore kids to come to Shepherd. Coach Correll was a good recruiter as well. I don't see anyone on staff that strikes me as the type of personality or recruiter that those 2 were, and I think the results are speaking for themselves to a degree these last 18 months.Comment

We almost there yet, lol? Just checking back in and see we are almost to 0-11! I called it weeks ago, WL will not come within 14 points of anyone on their remaining schedule. A few more weeks and I can head over to the basketball forum to talk about a program that gets it right when it comes to recruiting. At this point it's going to take a protest or us wearing bags over our heads at football games, lol. Who's with me?Comment

To be honest, I really don't think there is anything that fans, alumni or donors can do. I have specifically directed my meager donations away from football for the last eight years which has had zero effect. I would imagine that the few remaining fans sitting in the stands with bags on their heads would have equal effect. This is a group and administration that shows zero ability to be embarrassed into doing anything. If 15 years of public display of your abject failure in your chosen vocation (football coaching) is not enough to shame you into quitting, nothing will be. He clearly is MORE than willing to collect a paycheck as long as WLU is willing to pay him, and the AD and President(s) are clearly more than willing to continue to stroke checks with ZERO accountability or expectation of even basic coaching comptance.Originally posted by TopperNation View PostComment
