  • 2026 WV State football

After trailing 7-0 at the end of the first quarter, State is up 42-10 in the middle of the 3rd quarter.

We have some players for sure. I can't tell a lot because Chowan is not so hot although they do have a couple of nice players.

I am happy about the upgrades over the past decade that the administration at State has made. Lakin Field has been nicely upgraded over the years but it looks even better today.

Truth be told, this past spring WV State had one of the best days of giving by alumni of all the schools in WV. I know State's alumni day giving more than doubled Marshall University's day of giving.

Final score 56-24 as State opens with a victory.

I was impressed by some of the freshmen on offense late in the game. We moved it down to the Chowan 9 yard line and then took knees. We could have punched another one in as there was two minutes left.

A lot of players got experience. It was a close game at the midway point in the 2nd quarter. It has to be the most OOC opponent points we have scored since we put up 60+ on Lincoln back around 2009.

Chowan isn't very good. But State has some weapons. Some things on defense have to get shored up, but it did during the 2nd and 3rd quarters when the game was still in doubt.

At Robert Morris next Saturday night.

I am heading to the game in Moon this weekend. Robert Morris is coming off a 28-7 win over Wagner.

I was told the Mountain East is charging a monthly pass of $9.99 to watch MEC games. I am not sure how I feel about this. For the average worker, this is one more monthly charge that you have to remember to take off your card in March. I am assuming the conference gets the revenue? Do home schools have to produce the games?

In some ways, I think it could help State generate more ticket revenue if local people in the Charleston area feel they would rather go to the game rather than sit at home and pay for it to watch on a computer or phone. On the other hand, I think it is hard enough to get out-of-state alumni connected to the school. Having to pay this fee could lose much needed interest in out-of-state alumni and donors. We are heading in a time with major health insurance increases and other living increases that are causing a lot of people to make cuts.

Will this also be the case for the basketball tournament which has had some good broadcasting done by West Virginia Radio? If the broadcast is now going to be a charge, I can see the MEC tournament starting to lose interest from a lot of fans of schools outside of the northern panhandle. I hope our conference leadership knows what they are doing here.

Ok, thanks for clarifying. I was told wrong.

It was a 15-9 game at halftime last night. We were in it. Offensively, we did some things well on the ground. Defensively with still too many chunk plays at the wrong time.

I think we should have a winning record but I can't tell. Very early opening week. Need to work on some things with the passing game and defense needs more consistency. We have talent at WR and TE. We can run the ball with the backs and QB Dailey can run it too.

WV Wesleyan at home next and then a trip to Fairmont. We have to show up at Fairmont that we can win a game that we should on the road. That was an issue last season.
