  • New Haven Begins Camp

    https://www.nhregister.com/sports/ar...s-13136208.php

    Of note are the following:

    1. Ajee Patterson will be back for a fourth year at QB.
    2. Wide receiver Ju'an Williams transfers from AIC, along with three transfers from SCSU.
    3. Two Division 1 transfers, including a kicker/punter from CCSU (Frankie Palmer, nephew of New Haven AD Chris Palmer) and a defensive back from Rutgers (Nyshere Woodson).

Surprised by Patterson being able to stay on, but they had a huge hole at QB with the only ones on the roster combining for zero passes between them. Williams is a big upgrade at wide receiver. Palmer seems reliable on extra points but he is only 9 of 17 on field goals with the longest being 37 yards.

They have one of the more experienced QBs in the league with Patterson. Monks with Assumption is the only better one right now.

New Haven will be in the mix again. They have talent and they need to gel early. If they play well in September, they have a shot as their schedule gets tougher down the stretch.

3 kids transferred from SCSU to UNH, which sucks. WR Fernandez being the biggest loss.

          Re: New Haven Begins Camp

I'm no rules expert, but according to the article Patterson did an internship with a police department during the Spring semester and that preserved his final year of eligibility. He's a grad student now. A good season and Patterson might break some of New Haven's (well, Ryan Osiecki's) passing records.

Another poster mentioned that AIC's field goal kicker from last year transferred to Assumption too, along with Williams coming to New Haven. With AIC's record last year and the preseason poll showing them in 9th place, I wonder if AIC is in full rebuilding mode. Maybe yellowjacketalum might know more?

I didnt know Williams transferred. Williams graduated so he was able to go with a year left in eligiblity without Wilkins stopping him. Still im shocked that he left. AIC is going through some financial trouble. Its going to be awhile till AIC will be contending for anything. They do not have any grad. assistants this year and are looking at alumni heavy to help out. Found out recently that we been in trouble for a couple of years now and has affected in recruiting heavy. Maybe one of the reasons why they dont have a OOC game this year. The coaches poll of picking us 9th maybe a possibility.

This is his 5th football season which is allowed. He took off the spring semester to keep his eligibility while he interned.

He is a graduate student which allows his 5th season of football. Scarpa from Merrimack last year did the same thing after he transferred from Bentley. Gavalas did the same thing last year after leaving St. A for Post.

The new Post QB is doing the same thing as he played at Rutgers and is a graduate student this year.

It is allowed as long as the NCAA allows the waiver for the 5th football season.

In the case of Ju'an Williams recently joining UNH from AIC, he was listed as a R. Sophomore last year from AIC , but he is a graduate student this year according to UNH roster. So, does he have 2 years of eligibility left as a graduate? (this year and next).

I don't know. He would have needed to graduate in 3 years from AIC which is possible. If he did, he could have 2 years left if he takes classes in both fall semesters of 2018 and 2019.

You can get creative to extend your football career like Patterson did and still be a student.

Williams was on the 2014 roster but he redshirted. This will be his 5th and last year of eligibility. AIC sometimes gets the class info on players wrong.
