Week 2 in the NE10 was a week of (non league) league games for most of the league, while Franklin Pierce wins their first-ever game in an out-of-conference game. Assumption and New Haven go old-school by winning with defense and running, while AIC springs an upset of Bentley and Pace was dominant in beating Southern CT State.
The NE10 Pick'Em sees no clear leader and a bunch of people at 9 and 8 correct choices (it is early, after all).
The recap from last week:
1. Pace over Southern CT State 31-14 - Pace gets past the disappointment of the Millersville loss and Southern struggled on offense. Pace was up 31-0 in the third.
2. AIC over Bentley 28-23 - Yellow Jackets showed balance on offense that they haven't had in a long time. Jayson Demild and Samad Davila were both multiple threats on offense for AIC.
3. Assumption over St. Anselm 54-23 - St. Anselm may have found themselves a QB in Phillip Tran (42-78 passes for 448 passing yards), but it was Assumption's defense (5 turnovers) and the running attack of Doug Santos and Khaleed Exum-Strong (354 combined yards out of 384 total rushing yards)who came out on top.
4. New Haven over Stonehill 31-9 - You would have thought a military academy was dressed in Charger blue and gold with their reliance on the run (only 5-11 passing for 56 yards and 223 yards on the ground) and their defense. Chargers were credited with five sacks but Stonehill was constantly under pressure. Today was New Haven's 250th win as an NCAA football program.
5. Franklin Pierce over Curry 29-27 - Ravens get their first-ever win as a D2 program but nearly lost two 15-point leads in the process. Curry now has the distinction of having been on the losing end of the first-ever win for two current NE10 programs (New Haven was the other back in 1975). Chazz Bryant scored the first touchdown for the Ravens in their D2 history.
And the standings for the NE10 Pick'Em are:
For Week 3 in the NE10 there will be four league games with 8 of the league's 9 teams in action. Bentley has the week off and awaits New Haven under the lights on Sept. 27.
Friday, Sept. 20:
1. Assumption (1-1) at Southern CT State (0-2), 7:00 PM - Greyhounds try to keep running past an Owls team that has struggled on offense.
Saturday, Sept. 21:
1. AIC (1-1) at New Haven (1-1), 1:00 PM - Looks to be a defensive battle. AIC looks to maintain offensive balance and the Chargers look to find a consistent passing attack.
2. Pace (1-1) at Franklin Pierce (1-1), 6:00 PM - The first NE10 game and first game for the Ravens against a D2 opponent. Pace looks to move up in the standings with a win.
3. Stonehill (1-1) at St. Anselm (0-2), 6:00 PM - Can Phillip Tran keep throwing it against a solid Stonehill defense? Stonehill looks to rebound after the New Haven loss.
Your picks are due at 7:00 PM on Friday, Sept. 20 - Good luck!
