I just realized that there are a bunch of football players from New Haven are in the transfer portal very recent. What is going on?

Did you see who is in the portal?

There isn’t a college football team at any level that won’t be impacted by the portal these days. It’s really easy to get out and go somewhere else now. If someone isn’t guaranteed a starting spot, they may very well go even if it’s better to stay.

Need to minimize the losses and make up for any talent deficits that might result.

You are correct with the portal but to enter the portal this late is surprising and seem unexpected. Here are just some, most entered the portal as late as two weeks ago.

Yeah I saw some others in the portal also. Maybe there were many transfer into UNH? New recruits? Usually players start enter the portal as soon as the season ends or right after that, but this is pretty late and many schools are already fill. It's interesting to know why so late with these players thou.

Looks like those are guys who were not likely to get any playing time, or were maybe 2-3 years away. In the old days, they might just quit, but having the portal possibly gives them a shot somewhere. Why be the seventh or eighth QB when you be higher somewhere else, I guess. That's what Ryan Osiecki was when he was at Louisville, and look how he turned out after transferring.

The real problem happens when starters hit the portal. That's happening with a lot of the higher-level programs now. Those programs are getting guys to play D2 who might have had D1 offers or even a shot at making a D1 squad, they play really well in D2, and then they go to D1 for their last year or two. Angelo State's top WR last year was like that - he had two really good years at D2, he hit the portal this Spring, and West Virginia got him for his final year.
