Re: Piaa split up...
Saltsburg forfeited a game against Ligonier Valley citing player safety. LV being in the Heritage Conference is a major debate in itself as it is a much larger school and kills just about everybody weekly. LV would likely do very well in the WPIAL -- perhaps as high as 4A.
From what I recall of the story, Saltsburg had 19 players and had 1-2 already injured.
The conference is holding a meeting soon regarding the forfeit and what Saltsburg should do moving forward. The whole topic of Saltsburg merging with Blairsville has been going on forever.
Saltsburg wants to remain its own school and has fought a merger for decades.

If you don't like that answer ... then go co-op. And I said I have no problem with reclassification of private/charter schools. My point is, a lot of school officials, coaches and fans would rather whine than try to work within the existing system.

Ligonier could be competitive in the 3A with Derry, Mount Pleasant, Burrell, etc.

TJ is one team and one of the best in 4A. Ligonier would mop the floor with the Indiana types in 4A. Point is it's a joke they are playing in the Heritage Conference.

West Shamokin is 2a paying in the Heritage
If they played in the Wpial- they would have to travel to Washington, Charleroi, McGuffey, Burrell etc.
Let's remember all the teams would have to travel that distance, baseball, golf, girls soccer, volleyball etc.
Their best fit should be Laurel Highlands (westmont, Central Cambria, Johnstown, etc)
