Take the five best players off a Class 5-A team like Shippensburg and send them to McDevitt, and you can still have a pretty good team because there are ~60 players left. Take the five best players off Class 1-A Blacklick Valley roster and send them to Bishop Carroll, and you're lucky to have 22 guys to practice with.

Certainly some local ties to this story with the situation at Saltsburg.

Saltsburg has an enrollment slightly higher than Hickory in the movie Hoosiers.

Saltsburg forfeited a game against Ligonier Valley citing player safety. LV being in the Heritage Conference is a major debate in itself as it is a much larger school and kills just about everybody weekly. LV would likely do very well in the WPIAL -- perhaps as high as 4A.

From what I recall of the story, Saltsburg had 19 players and had 1-2 already injured.

The conference is holding a meeting soon regarding the forfeit and what Saltsburg should do moving forward. The whole topic of Saltsburg merging with Blairsville has been going on forever.

Saltsburg wants to remain its own school and has fought a merger for decades.

If you don't like that answer ... then go co-op. And I said I have no problem with reclassification of private/charter schools. My point is, a lot of school officials, coaches and fans would rather whine than try to work within the existing system.

There are teams ... even in this land of free trophies ... that just stink. No amount of work is going to change it.

                Lipstick on a pig scenario.

At our level you can tell ESU to just get better. Sounds good. But ... not happening.

No way!! TJ would absolutely annihilate Ligonier.

Ligonier could be competitive in the 3A with Derry, Mount Pleasant, Burrell, etc.

So did Laurel Valley but it was inevitable as is Saltsburg/Blairsville.

TJ is one team and one of the best in 4A. Ligonier would mop the floor with the Indiana types in 4A. Point is it's a joke they are playing in the Heritage Conference.

Agreed. LV playing a bunch of schools who consider 25 kids for football a good turnout is crazy. My wife teaches at Armstrong and we go to a couple games a year. Armstrong has a solid, reasonably competitive 5A program and I believe Ligonier would beat them most years.

Marion Center is 2a playing in the Heritage

West Shamokin is 2a paying in the Heritage

If they played in the Wpial- they would have to travel to Washington, Charleroi, McGuffey, Burrell etc.

Let's remember all the teams would have to travel that distance, baseball, golf, girls soccer, volleyball etc.

Their best fit should be Laurel Highlands (westmont, Central Cambria, Johnstown, etc)

                              • There should be three high schools in Indiana County at the max.
