Same thing goes for the offensive lineman.

I do agree with the position coaching. The longtime OL and DL coaches are no longer there.

Two Harlon Hill Winners and a few runner ups under Coach Hale :-).
If accolades don't mean anything, why do football teams go after 5 star recruits, instead of a 2 star recruit? They are being rated on what they did in high school, which usually comes along with solid statistics and awards. And why bring up the Harlon Hill award as a measure of good backs? It's just another accolade.

Unless you're arguing that no awards mean anything, the Harlon Hill is a pretty good measure of dominance at the D-II level.

Awards mean something, unless the argument is that all the recruits with awards are merely part of childhood sport were everyone gets a trophy.

High school stats and accolades mean nothing to how good the kid will be in college. Harlon Hill would mean he was actually good in college. Its like winning the Heisman means your were good in college.....it doesn't mean your going to be a good nfl player.

5 star kids aren't rated 5 star because of HS stats and awards. Julian Fleming is a 5 star player because he is 6-2 200 runs a 4.4 40, a 4.0 20 yd shuttle, and a 40" vertical.....not because he's been all state in AA Pennsylvania HS football.

A kid in district 10 just broke the d10 passing record. I'm sure he's a d3 kid at best.

Sure, NFL scouts run combines to get number and measurements, but that doesn't mean they will be good NFL players either. Scouting at all levels is a gamble. I would take an All-Area, All-State, League MVP, Team Captain, National Honor Roll Student, and All-Time Career Statistical Leader at their high school any day, unless of course the no name recruit is Jahri Evans. There are intangibles, of course, but we are discussing how they look on paper.

            • Back to the gist of the thread, Bloom hasn't focused their offense around the QB, and it has finally caught up with them. Offensively, football starts with the QB these days. A mobile QB can be effective even with a less than perfect offensive line.

Exactly what I have been saying. They have that mobil QB now. He has all of the accolades like "Bart was saying". This kid ran a spread and RPO in high school very well and was very effective. It's right in front of them, all they have to do is taper the offence around him.

ESU built there offense around the QB, and have had some bad years as well. In order to run that offense, a team needs a solid offense line, and speedy receivers, plus the outstanding qb, Bloom went the simpler route thru the year, a good offense line and running back. It required less pieces, and fewer chances for mistakes. Both philosophies can be successful with the right players.

                  • Bloomsburg has now dropped four straight to fall to 1-5 overall and 0-3 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division standings.

Coach Hale's 1993 team also was 1-5, but finished 5-6.

1993 was not his 5 season as head coach!

The HC went 1-4 from 1989 to 1991, and 0-5 in 1992; they were his last 4 years of a 7 year stay. He went on to be the HC of a D1 team for 9 years. It took Bloom that long to make a change. I don't see it happening unless there is another bad year.

                          • I didn't know where to put this, and didn't want to start a new thread, but it seems to fit here. Bloom will be adding women's golf in 2020. It just doesn't seem men's sports will be improving with this news.

Seems like they may be in a pxxxxxx contest with WCU who have 23 sports. Oddly PSAC West seems content to stay in the 15-19 range.

                              • Enrollment driver. Women's golf can get them 10-20 students with little to no scholarships.
