  • Mercyhurst - Champs of Bottom Feeders

Not to knock the team, because Mercyhurst have some very nice talent on both sides of the ball, to include one of the best Punters in Division 2 and should have been contenders the last three years. But when you can only beat teams like Lake Erie (New HC who will be even better next year), Gannon, LHU, Edinboro (injuries), Clarion, and a 2-8 Millersville (giving Hurst this game), losing to a Seton Hill team. How long do we have to HOPE to have a winning season? The arrow points only one way and that's the Head Coach. You had 18 yrs to produce and his record shows he cannot. At some point you have to take off the blinders and see. Remember ND was a poor program, now look what the new coach have accomplished in 2 yrs. Its not the players, it's the coach. This includes all the other Bottom Feeders as well. May beat Millersville, but in the conference you are under par.

Being a private school I'm sure if the board wanted they could buy him out of his remaining contract. The issue is finding a HC who will want to come there and stay long term to build the program into a regional contender. Competing for talent against schools with great history like IUP, Cal & SRU is a tough sell.

I believe their are plenty of coaches looking for the chance to be a HC somewhere. Personally I think they have a candidate on staff now, because recruiting is not the problem. Also, this is HC final year of contract.

As a private school, Mercyhurst, at least in theory, can cast a wider net into Western New York (Buffalo/Rochester) and Northeast Ohio (Cleveland). Though, you do have the MAC schools plus NDC which could be seen as added competition for Hurst.

A monkey could have had the same record as Marty the past half decade.

He had more than enough talent to do way better.

2019 roster shows 33 PA, 26 OH, 18 NY, 20 OTHER STATES, 2 OTHER COUNTRIES. So exactly 66 of 99 or 2/3 of the team is from OOS. I think they may want to go after more PA players because their imports are not getting the job done.

Wrong. It's not the players but COACH. See Wayne State.

They'll probably rank about 3 this year.

Let me put it like this, they beat a Millerville team that had a QB that was inserted due to injury, walk-on wide receiver, wrestler, and they could only win by 10. Come-on man.

We all know Marty has underachieved. That said -- and the real important question -- does the administration really care so long as the program is clean and they putter around .500?

Where does Laker Football fall in the pecking order at Mercyhurst? Men's basketball, hockey, baseball and men's wrestling seem to get a lot of attention and focus up there.

Hate to say it -- although I think it to be very true -- some schools in the West kind of punt football and put resources in to other sports. Trying to overtake Cal, SRU and IUP in football is a pretty tall task.

There's a lot of schools in the PSAC treating football as an enrollment boost. They like having 5 home games a year. The band plays. Some people show up on campus. The team wins here and there. They have a Homecoming game. All is good.
