    Tell us more. I'm intrigued.

Just curious do the applicants put salary requirements on their application? Perhaps the three you mention wanted too much coin and thus got passed over?

I don't see how any of your three alternatives are better than the finalists.

I'll submit to you this: Bill Zwaan current West Chester HFC (Widener, DIII--MAC) and Jim Clements current Kutz HFC (Delaware Valley College, DIII--MAC) have seen *some* success (sarcasm font) at the DII level. Also, Lance Leipold at U of Buffalo came from DIII Wisconsin Whitewater. Also success.

As someone who's worked in Athletics Admin, I don't think where you came from matters, what matters is you can recruit, coach and have a plan for success (having administrative support helps out a lot too).

So what if they hired Vince Kehres. Still pissing vinegar that they hired a D3 head coach? I'm okay with a successful D3 head coach because then they're not learning how to be a head coach on top of learning Edinboro. I'm also in favor of hiring someone who doesn't think they're better than PSAC and D2 football like Creehan, Szabo, Tepper, Lustig. I also think you're too dismissive of their resumes.

              A simple Google search reveals:

Acosta has 1 year of head coaching experience (.600 win %) at D3 Widener. D1 experience at Bucknell, Delaware, and Syracuse.

Benzel has a .672 win% at Westminster. Before that over 10 years as a DC at RMU and St. Francis. I can tell you that people at RMU still think highly of him.

Gritti has 9 seasons as a D3 head coach with a career win % of .580. He's also an attorney and is credited with raising $4 million for football facilities at Millikin.

Nulph played for Benzel at RMU and was his DC at Westminster. He was responsible for fundraising at Westminster. FCS experience at Duquesne, RMU, and St. Francis.

The D3 thing should be more of an asset than a liability in theory because those coaches have to sell a school without promise of scholarship money and those schools are all almost always private and two to three times the cost of a PSAC institution. As previously said Zwann and Clements both came from successful MAC D3 schools and have had equal if not better success at WCU/Kutztown respectively. Having an supportive administration makes the transition easier and with HC experience it's a small learning curve.

                  FWIW:

Paul Dunn hasn't coached since 2014. Nothing against him personally or professionally, but the last thing Edinboro football needs is a 60 year old white guy who is a head coach for the first time.

Kory Allen could probably have been in the final 4. Has had a good run as OC at Findlay but would also be a first time head coach. Plus his receivers could only muster 4th best in the GMAC. I could be way off, but Casey Creehan is probably seen as toxic because of his dad (Denny). His uncle didn't even get a sniff when Edinboro was looking for a president. He's had a nice career and surely wants to move home. Maybe these two just didn't impress the committee in their Skype interviews.

That's exactly why I did not apply.

Both Zwaan and Clements took over winning programs. KU was one year removed, an ill fated Drew Folmar year. Neither of them had to build anything, unlike the current Edinboro situation.

None of whom have had to chop up the schollies in the PSAC.

So if it was a 60 year old black guy who is a head coach for the first time, it would be okay?

If it was a winning program, why did he take it over? The previous head coach didn't retire or leave for a better job after going 12-19 the previous three seasons.

Not much better. If you don't have money to throw around you damn sure better have the coolest program out there that guys want to join. Edinboro's leadership is way too Boomer-heavy (no offense). If you go to their campus you are surrounded by people 5-10 years away from retirement.

UH, West Chester has always won. No matter who coached there. Doesn't matter if a coach came from D3. You win anyway because of location.
