What are your fellow's in and around academia opinions on the law suites by students claiming that online courses are a materially deficient and insufficient alternative to the in class courses they paid for and are not receiving due to the pandemic? Do these suites have any merit and will they lead to refunds of tuition and fees?

Your ignorance is astounding. You should probably depend on more that Democratic talking points to get your news. The first report from China about what we now call Corona was December 31 when the WHO reported a pnumonea like illness of a dozen people in Wuhan. WHO and Chinese officials also stated that there was no evidence that this disease could be spread from person to person. One week later on Jan 7, the CDC issued a Level 1 travel advisory for Wuhan advising against US citizens traveling there and also establishes the corona insident management system to better understand the virus and begin to formulate a whole of government response to it. 21 days after the initial WHO report, the first US case of Corona is reported in Washington State in a person who had traveled to Wuhan. On Jan 27, Trump stands up the Corona Virus Task Force to coordinate federal and state response to the virus. On Jan 31, one month after the initial WHO report from China of a dozen people in Wuhan having an illness that didn't appear to be able to spread from person to person, Trump declairs a public health emergency and imposes a travel ban from China. The number of Corona cases in the US at the point when Trump declared the public health emergency and imposed the Chinese travel ban? 57. That was also a month before the first Corona related death in Washington State at the end of February.

I don't see them having any merit. It's an extraordinary time and the shift was a remedy not deceit. Obviously there are some professors who had never taught online before. Nearly all schools refunded millions in unusable housing, dining, and service fees. Not sure what else one could expect. Some schools got caught charging lower tuition rates for online courses so they'll have to answer to that.

Hopefully this puts some reality in the minds of those who believe virtual is the immediate future over the traditional campus model.

That is your defense of the handling of the pandemic by the Trump Administration? As Mr. Spock would say, "Fascinating, Captain!"

Here is an interesting article about how the efforts to sue schools for tuition is intensifying.

Personally, I don't know what other alternatives schools had. They couldn't continue business as usual. They couldn't cancel the semester and refund everything. The students actually gave their implied consent to online instruction. Not that there was a viable alternative; however, they did comply.

A lot of issues and I am not a lawyer. If the students were to prevail it would devastate the schools which
is not in the public interest.

Basically, I just think there are too many lawsuits in our society.

And the Dems HOWLED at the travel ban saying it just PROVED Trump was a racist!

The President can only put a travel ban in place. He can't be at each international airport monitoring every flight coming from every location. Sadly, as we have seen time and time again, the government moves at a slow pace and to expect an overnight change in their procedures is almost impossible...unless you impliment martial law. Are you implying that you WANT Trump to impliment martial law???

Online classes could be much better in the Fall -- with proper time to prepare. They had to whip this together pretty quickly this Spring. It's hard to see any courts siding with the students, ... but, who knows. Most schools make a nice target for high-profile law firms.

When you have the Executive Branch of the government trying to shut the country down and you have senior leaders of the Legislative Branch AND state governors mocking them, calling them racists and saying there is no need to lock the country down, it is note helpful. Imagine how much quicker the lock down would have occured if the President and Nancy Pelosi standing together at press conference saying this is serious and we need to lock the country down...how much quicker and effective the lock down would have occured if on that same day each of the 50 governors had said we hear you Mr President, we are locking our states down immediately?

I find it very rich that the Dems in the house want to "investigate" Trumps handling of Corona but seem to be absolutely oblivious to the way Democratic leaders "handled" congressional Corona response.

I'm just going to let those comments stand on their own.

Well, actually, I really like the part about Trump and Pelosi standing together at a press conference. Now that truly is "rich.":bulgy-eyes:

As soon as Pres Trump tries to do something to protect us (closing boarders comes to mind) the Dems run to a liberal Obama judge to get an injunction. This seems to happen on any and every the TRUMP admin doesanything to improve this country. All the Dems know is obstruction, obstruction and more obstruction.
