For the "just give the players the bag" crowd out there...
There is a basketball player from Tennessee that just graduated. He played four full seasons... 2021-2022 as a freshman (started much of the year). 2022-2023 as a sophomore. 2023-2024 as a junior. And 2024-2025 as a senior this past year. To establish precedent here... He was never injured. He never redshirted. He had no personal hardship requiring that he step away from basketball for an extended period of time. He played four full seasons of college basketball.
He is suing the NCAA, stating that not permitting him to play a fifth year of basketball (mind you, again, he played FOUR FULL SEASONS) is causing him to lose out on earning potential of 2-4 million dollars. He has zero case. None. He was never eligible for a fifth year. But I'm sure he'll win the case. The entire lawsuit is hilarious to read. It talks about how "diligent" of a student he was. Talks about "only having the ability to earn $500,000" during his senior season. I know the surrounding cast around so many of these players are bad news, but I'm firmly convinced that much of the chaos going on now is strictly the fault of the student athletes.

A somewhat expected tweek to the playoff was approved yesterday. First round byes will no longer go just to conference champions. Teams will be seeded 1-12 based on rankings and the top 4 teams get the byes whether they are conference champions or not. Personally I think this makes more sense, though I will always believe the bye is not an advantage in this format. I certainly don’t expect those who get the bye to go 0-4 like they did last year, but it’s just too long of a break and will potentially be even longer if a team finishes in the top four but doesn’t play in a conference championship game.

This is largely the first domino that just gives more power to the two conferences who believe they are the only ones who matter.Originally posted by Chuck Norris View PostA somewhat expected tweek to the playoff was approved yesterday. If you follow how they all agreed to this 2-3 years ago, those two leagues essentially have all of the voting power within the confines of how they amend the CFP. Make no mistake, the reason they forced this changed was because the powers that be saw the other conferences outside of their club having the opportunity to have some type of advantage over them.
I don’t dislike straight seeding. But I laugh at why they forced it. It’s not because the teams with a bye went 0-4. They would simply rather 2 Big Ten and 2 SEC teams just have those spots. Anything to keep pushing everybody else further out of the picture.

I get all that, but this is what we have and I’m all for making it as good as it can be. Honestly, for the Group of 5 representative, I think getting the bye is the worst possible outcome. Boise wasn’t beating any of the four teams that won in the first round this year. But could they have beaten Indiana, Clemson, or SMU, especially if the game is in Boise? Quite possibly. Then you’re the team with a game under its belt going up against a potentially rusty opponent in round two. If a true underdog is ever going to make a real run in this playoff I’d bet that is the route they’d go.Originally posted by IUP24 View Post

I doubt a true underdog ever makes a run. But that’s an entirely different conversation.Originally posted by Chuck Norris View Post

Again, I don’t dislike the straight seeding. But this was simply the two conferences of consequence working together to eliminate anything seen as a potential advantage. They can sell it how they want, but that’s exactly what it was.

I rarely drink soda, but a wave of nostalgia hit me several years ago when I was walking that aisle of our little mom and pop grocery store and I found myself staring at Cherikee Red. About halfway through my 2nd glass the nostalgia wore off and I realized the taste held zero appeal to me, but for that first glass I was 10 years old again.Originally posted by IUPbigINDIANS View Post
I still prefer Faygo and Rocky Top.
I was a sucker for the mid-90s Pepsi Clear.

I think it actually tasted great!
