I'm happy about this move; the Wildcats needed to get off the sinking ship known as CAA Football. Villanova fits much better institutionally and geographically in the Patriot League than they do the current CAA. Lehigh, Lafayette, and Villanova all pick up additional short trip road games, and for me personally VU will play every other year in my backyard (at Georgetown).

I didn’t even know Georgetown had football. I thought it was a basketball only school
like most of the Big East.

I couldn't even tell you the last time Georgetown was relevant in basketball.

They were a pretty consistent tourney team under Thompson III but the last time they were a serious championship contender was probably the Hibbert + Green team that lost in the Final Four almost twenty years ago. They had a bad stretch under Ewing and they’re still trying to climb out of it.

          • There was a good interview on The Dan Patrick Show today.

Dan had Paul Finebaum on for about 15 mins.

            It's worth the watch.

Penn State had to release its first report of the top 200 salaries paid. The big reveal was wrestling coach Cael Sanderson making just shy of $1M after salary & incentive pay.

I guess that's what winning 12 of the last 14 NCAA Championships gets you.

Shapiro should reject this report and force them to re-file with the Penn State Health employees excluded.

                    • Mercyhurst's roster has 56 new players. Yep, D1 is going great for them.

I mean…would you stay after a year in Erie?

At least they're in a much more attractive neighborhood than Gannon. Behrend is in the boonies but there's a brewery and pizza place right there.

Any idea of the D1 yearly roster turnover percentage?

Mercyhurst also had a whole lot of average-at-best D2 players all the sudden being told they were now really-below-average D1 players.

In other words both sides needed to go in a different direction. The program needed to mass upgrade with imports.

I said from Day 1 the Lakers athletic department brass will be begging the PSAC for a second chance by 2029.

You think they'll go that long?

I'm wondering when James Franklin will throw them on the schedule. Seems like the type of program right up his alley to welcome to State College and spend the postgame press conference boasting about the environment of the tailgate lots before a non-traditional opponent that his fans were excited to see.

It's important to play teams in your geographical and regional footprint from a recruiting perspective. Mercyhurst probably helps aid their recruiting in the Erie area, much like Villanova in eastern PA, and Buffalo in NY state. I think that game against Marshall in a few years will really solidify themselves as the premier regional team to all prospective student athletes in the state of WV.
