Illinois might suck but the people who pay the closest attention had them at #9. Think about that.

The funny thing is that I know I watch way more college football than most of the voters in the AP poll. There was a girl who moved Florida up in her poll after USF went into the Swamp and beat them. She caught a ton of heat and tried to explain and justify her reasoning. She was a 20-something with a vote who clearly had no idea what she was doing. It was later determined that what she was ultimately trying to say was that she did not know the difference between Florida, South Florida, and Miami, but she was way too embarrassed to say that when she was questioned about it.

Those are the people who tell you what teams and conferences are better than the other.

Frankly... I have no time for the BS that this has all turned into. I love college football, not the B1G or the SEC. I love watching the sport, not just the recognizable brands. If you just want to watch the helmets you recognize, then I'd suggest those people tune into Colin Cowherd. His material on college football (he doesn't know much about the sport) would be right up their alley.

In other scary D1 news, FCS is exploring breaking its playoffs away from the NCAA.

If you love to watch recognizable helmets and logos playing in big games that no longer mean anything, then this is the weekend for you. Enjoy the football, but just remember, don't get too interested in the outcomes or the results. The only reward for the winners is to potentially play these same teams again on a neutral field.

Agree or don't. I'm sure Colin Cowherd is gearing up for a big weekend of telling everyone why he's excited for the first of potentially three matchups between Penn State and Oregon.

I find it odd how people keep saying this even though it's not true. The PIAA does NOT guarantee playoff admission to all league champions. District selection criteria is left up to the individual districts and those that use power ratings systems could (in theory) leave out a league champion that has a horrendous schedule. On the flip side a team can be selected for district playoffs without winning its league or even its division/section, lose in the district championship and advance to the PIAA playoffs anyways, then become State Champions despite being champions of NOTHING before that.

If you’d like a laugh this afternoon Arkansas has fired their HC and appointed Bobby Petrino (yes, that Bobby Petrino) as the interim HC. This means that ol’ Bobby has served two separate HC stints at both programs he up and left by surprise (he left WKU early too but that was built into the contract and he had to pay the school for it.)

Northern Illinois will receive about $34 million in 6 seasons as football-only member in Mountain West - $5.7 million a year. MW also will pay NIU $1.5M signing bonus & up to $2.5M for NIU's exit fee to leave MAC.
