I imagine The Nits will be keeping Terry Smith..not sure who else they’d hire at this point.

My guess, an admittedly uneducated one, is that Terry Smith not having the Penn State job by now means he’s not getting it, unless absolutely everybody they have any sort of eye on turns them down.

I really have no sympathy for anybody at Ole Miss. If anybody doesn’t know who this guy is by now, that’s on them.

The fact this can even happen is the larger problem. Lane will always chase the next job. He's just now one step closer to Tuscaloosa.

Major college football is the lawless, Wild West. Obviously, this is no longer 'college' football -- regardless of how the pimps masquerade themselves.

The P4 is a professional league -- one that is gearing up to soon resemble another league we know, and basically have an AFC (SEC) and NFC (BIG).

Lane's farewell Tweet mentioned he'd be "rooting hard for the team to complete their mission".

Lane and LSU travel to Oxford next Fall. I'm sure he'll get a warm homecoming welcome.

If I were a Penn State person right now, I'd be pacing shouting profanity.

It would be karma for Ole Miss if they lucked into the 5th or 6th seed in the CFP and end up losing to either the ACC champion (Duke or Virginia) or the Group of Six rep (likely the 'Merica Conference champion, either Tulane or North Texas, though James Madison probably is a long-shot to steal that spot if they win the Sun Belt).

I'm so pulling for Duke. Who doesn't want to see a 5-loss team in the CFP?

I don't know. I think the Nittany Nation would be happy with Smith signing a short contract. They don't seem to have many options right now. It's hard not to like Terry Smith. But I've heard the PSU job described as being CEO of a $70 million a year business (and that was 10-15 years ago), and I don't see Smith as having that background for a long term commitment. I guess we'll find out pretty soon.

I think the Lettermen's Club wants one of their own in Smith. If it were my decision, I'd give Smith whatever he wants to stay then hire Chesney.

That’s honestly about as much of a “big splash” hire Penn State is gonna make, someone like Sitake or Brent Key who has had success in the Big 12 or ACC who want to take that next step up to the BIG or the SEC. No one who is already succeeding in one of those two conferences is moving to a program who just fired a guy who consistently won 10 games and went to the Final 4 last season.

That's a very tough job. You're definitely Robin to USC's Batman ... and unless USC is rolling they don't even get much attention in Los Angeles.

The Rose Bowl is glamorized but it's really just a decaying dump. Not to mention it's about a 45 minute ride from Westwood to Pasadena.

Wish him well but I'd have much rather saw him in Creepy Valley.

The James Madison job will be interesting.
