So BYU is out of playoff contention. The top 8 from last week’s rankings are solidly in. Tulane is in. Either Virginia or James Madison will be in depending on the ACC championship game. Alabama is most likely in. If they do lose to Georgia, I can’t see it being lopsided enough to generate any discussion of bumping them out.
So it’s Notre Dame or Miami for the last spot and it’s a fascinating debate. Miami won head to head but Notre Dame is ranked higher and is playing just about as well as any team in the country.
Joe Tessitore and Jesse Palmer are advocating for Miami on the Big 12 telecast and I agree that head to head has to matter. But I kinda feel like the ACC championship game might impact this decision as well. If Virginia wins and the ACC is represented then I think they’ll put ND in. If Duke wins and the ACC would otherwise be left out, I think the Canes make it.

It will be real hard to keep that ND mega brand home.Originally posted by Chuck Norris View PostSo BYU is out of playoff contention. The top 8 from last week’s rankings are solidly in. Tulane is in. I get that. And if my theory has any merit I’m sure the committee is rooting hard for Virginia. To me it’s hard to fathom leaving a P4 conference completely out. And the justification is easy. They played head to head and Miami won..Originally posted by IUPbigINDIANS View Post

I love The U (or, the old version).
However, ND is the media darling. Picking over a head to head winner would be crazy.

The obvious answer is just to take them both and tell Tulane “better luck next time.” Or leave them both out and take Utah (also 10-2) and Virginia (ACC champ) instead to avoid solving the “head-to-head” vs. “qualitatively better” debate.Originally posted by IUPbigINDIANS View Post

True enough, but the portal can be hit or miss. High school is just one piece of the puzzle, but with two high school recruits at this point you'd darned well better hit the portal.Originally posted by IUPNation View Post
There was no portal then and Campbell has a nice payroll so he can get players looking for cash and a spot. High school recruits are just one piece of the puzzle these days.
