This hire is going to be interesting.
Top 8 got me to thinking, is it?

Bama, LSU, Florida, Texas, USC, ND, Miami, Ohio State, Georgia, Oklahoma, Michigan...

    I guess it's a top 11 somewhere.

I think its higher than USC, Georgia, and Oklahoma. Probably higher than Miami. I'd say its top 5 given its history, revenue, and brand.

Miami? I don’t think Miami was one of the top jobs in college football at the peak of their dominance.

I’d say it’s better than USC, Oklahoma, and Miami right now. The idea that USC especially is a better job than Michigan is crazy given that they haven’t been to the CFP even once or been close to a title post-Carroll. I don’t know if UM’s a better job than Georgia. Historically I’d say yes but in the lifespan of today’s recruits/players the Dawgs might be better or at least even. They were performing at a high level under Richt and took a leap after hiring Smart while Michigan muddled for a while post-Carr until they hired Harbaugh.

Best rant -- by a mile -- on Michigan came yesterday from Jim Rome.

Give it a watch if you can. He lit them up Chris Everett style.

            • Speaking of P4 jobs:

Utah’s Kyle Wittingham intends to step down after the Ute’s bowl game. Utah had a reasonable case to be in the CFP this season over Bama or Tulane/JMU but got bumped to the Las Vegas bowl.

You go away on that one (if convicted).

                • Villanova posts an impressive, come from behind 26-21 win at Tarleton State in the DI-AA/FCS playoffs. The Wildcats will either visit UC Davis or host Illinois State in the DI-AA/FCS semifinals next Saturday. (Unfortunately, regardless of the start time, it will partially overlap with the Eagles/Commanders game I plan to attend.)

Bloom visited UC Davis in the best Bloom comeback win to get them into the 2000 D2 Championship game.

Miami is not a top 15 job even. The stadium they play at is a half hour driv from campus, fan support wavers significantly season to season and even game to game. They have been a moderately above average program for over 20 years.

Right and even at their absolute peak in the 80s and early 90s they rarely, if ever, sold out the Orange Bowl. Don’t know their financial situation but I doubt they’re able to pay coaches the way other schools can. It’s never felt like a job that top tier candidates were interested in.

                        • Pitt volleyball advanced to their 5th straight Final Four dispatching Purdue in 4 sets. Unless Texas A & M can pull a stunner today, Pitt will face unbeaten Nebraska Thursday night and it’ll take Pitt’s A+ game to have any chance to get to the national championship match for the first time in these five tries. Nebraska has dropped 7 sets all season, and just one since mid September.

They have plenty of coin but like most major city programs they are typically an afterthought in South Beach.

It will never be like the 80s when the Hurricanes players were the biggest celebs in the city.

Miami is also much, much different today (as a city) than it was in the cartel-run 80s.

People in our general age group tend to still think of Miami as "The U" and remember the glory "showtime and bad boy" era.

Upcoming players today could care less about that run 40 years ago.

Who'd have ever thought women's volleyball would be the star attraction inside The Pete?

The men's hoops team is literally a disgrace.

Texas A & M just took Nebraska down in 5 sets. Absolutely epic match.
