I can promise we wouldn't be discussing them.

    These conferences aren't equal.
But if you told Oregon to go out and schedule James Madison in a non-conference game, they would not do it. Too much of a risk to play a G5 school that may have a pulse in week 2.

You made an earlier comment that “the best teams are in two conferences.” Says who?… Colin Cowherd? Joel Klatt? The girl who moved up the Gators after they lost to USF?

Are those two leagues more top heavy? Sure. But they don’t get an ounce of my sympathy in terms of not getting every one of their playoff contenders into the field. Nobody told any team to change conferences, participate in realignment, and follow the biggest payday. It’s not like there aren’t bad teams in the B1G or the SEC. There are.

If these teams wanted to form their own power conferences like they did, why can’t the games they play amongst each other be enough in the regular season? At some point, we have to acknowledge that those games they all signed up to play in conference, willingly, have to matter towards the postseason. I watched all those teams play all year over a 14 week season. There were fun and exciting moments that mattered that resulted in their exclusion. The CFP isn’t the end all.

They were. The CFP, in general, created a playoff or bust mentality. And it created a massive divide. It was never an even playing field, but these teams and conferences were all MUCH closer not very long ago.

What many fail to realize is that this entire conversation is interconnected. It’s not simply a discussion of the playoff field. If he wants to say that “the teams in the conferences aren’t equal,” okay. Sure, anyone is free to say that. But why is that the case?

Every avenue that allowed for those smaller teams to be competitive has been eradicated. Players leave for a bag. Players transfer to a bigger school even if not for money. G5 teams have hardly any upperclassmen anymore. There isn’t a Colt Brennan led Hawaii team anymore, or a Boise State Fiesta Bowl team. Even as recent as the UCF and Tulane teams that won NY6 playoff games. Those teams can’t compete like that anymore because they have no ability to retain talent.

Joel Klatt said yesterday, “The Group of 5 and the small P4 schools don’t need our charity.” He says that but fails to acknowledge that every big money school is just buying players from the rosters of the G5 and lower tier P4 schools. It’s trendy now to stomp on the G5; but why do those same people think it’s fine to steal all of their players?

So yeah, Tulane CANT compete with those SEC schools week in and week out. But at least acknowledge “why” they can’t.

NIL aTm's non-conference schedule: UTSA (American), Utah State (Mountain West), Notre Dame and Samford (FCS).

Yes, Utah State is an FBS program (technically, at least).

Saban now thinks half the field should be SEC because that's how he makes money now. Would he have felt the same way when he was at Michigan State or Toledo?
I'd be willing to bet a voter in Dallas wouldn't even know of the University of North Texas, let alone their football program. This year notwithstanding, UNT, the school that produced Mean Joe Greene and where Hayden Fry coached before taking the job at Iowa, doesn't exactly move the needle.

I worked at a game at NIL aTm a few years ago... Never. Again.

The NIL aTm student sections would make Iggles fans look polite; they are that insufferable.

Gonzaga has been to the finals a couple of times, but the Zags have never won the championship (unless I missed something).

Utah State has been an FBS team for almost its entire existence.

Maybe Southern Utah is who I'm thinking of?

Perhaps? I don’t really blame anyone for not realizing USU has mostly been FBS/1-A/D1. They’ve spent a fair amount of time as independents and their conference history is a mess; since leaving the Big West in 2000 they’ve been independent, in the Sun Belt, in the WAC, and in the MWC.

Southern Utah and Utah Tech (formerly Dixie State) are in FCS and are currently part of the WAC but will be moving to the Big Sky next season, essentially replacing the clown show that is California State University (comma) Sacramento, aka "Sad Sac State" in the Big Sky.
