Yeah really. I read an article a year or two ago about the cost of the overt displays of patriotism at big sporting events that does little to benefit anyone other than feelings.Originally posted by Tdobson View Post
Wow, that is a lot of money. Imagine, what else that could have been spent on.

You're always hearing about how this country doesn't have the money to accomplish a lot of things for its people, but they certainly seem to be able to find money for a lot of things, The top D1 programs probably spend an amount equivalent to about half Ship's endowment every year on sports. The amount contributed by one guy to build Northwestern's new stadium is about equivalent to total state PASSHE funding for a year.Originally posted by Tdobson View Post

Legislators howl about a billion spent for something like high-speed rail, but don't blink an eye at a $900 million stadium. Whatever.

That's the most likely outcome, but honestly, they're a school that's exploding and in a really good location. Pensacola is the Paris of the Redneck Riviera and doing well economically. A lot of the more recent developed oddly enough has pro golfer Bubba Watson involved. UWF enrollment is exploding and they'll be filling a unique niche in Florida. Right now there are just four FCS football programs in Florida: Stetson is in the lowly Pioneer League and the other three are in the SWAC, an HBCU conference that doesn't generate much interest beyond fans of HBCU football.Originally posted by Ship69 View Post
Another school that will vanish into the wilderness of lower level D1 sports, never to be heard of by many people outside of their immediate area again.
Also, don't forget the allure of UWF getting paid $250k to be a bug on the windshield of an SEC school.

They have so much to offer. If a coach can't sell that place, they shouldn't be in the profession.Originally posted by Fightingscot82 View Post

Obviously D1 has levels. I think at their level, they will make some noise very quickly.

They joined a good conference for them. With the exception of Eastern Kentucky and Austin Peay, everyone else is a D2 school that has moved up within the last 20 years, most of them within the last decade. Most of the schools also have name recognition in their region with the exception of the two Utah schools. Enjoy that travel LOL but at least Pensacola has a nice little airport. Some of those other schools have an hour to get to even a small regional airport that has just a few airlines servicing it.Originally posted by IUPbigINDIANS View Post

I agree, UWF (and the state) has a lot going for it right now. I wouldn't be surprised to see Coach Shinnick taking a look at coming back.Originally posted by IUPbigINDIANS View Post

Major news for one of the off-seasons most notable transfers:
Texas Tech QB Brendan Sorsby is entering some sort of treatment for a “gambling addiction.” The most important piece of this news is that Sorsby allegedly bet on Indiana while with the Hoosiers in 2022
I’m guessing that he’s going to be done as an NCAA player even if there’s no proof of match-fixing, given the hard line the NCAA takes on betting on your own team.According to sources, Sorsby bet on Indiana football while redshirting for the Hoosiers as a true freshman in 2022, a season in which he played in a single game as a reserve. The bets in 2022, according to sources, were on Indiana to win and none came in a game in which Sorsby appeared.“No matter how badly things get blown apart, we will always plant flowers again.”

The two Utah schools - Southern Utah and Utah Tech (formerly Dixie State) - will be joining the Big Sky Conference next season. So that significantly shrinks the travel footprint for UWF.Originally posted by Fightingscot82 View Post
