Or maybe your privilege shields you from the reality that we're only hearing about the incidents that result in death or catastrophic injury. There's a reason there's been a proliferation of police review boards. It's not coincidence that we're not hearing stories of white people killed when they refuse to comply with an officer's orders.

It doesn't have to be an either/or. It can be and/if/when. It's possible that we need to do a better job training police. And screening recruits for prejudice. And doing a better job of forging positive relationships between police officers and the community they patrol.

Facts, facts, facts. Washington Post, certainly not a friend to law enforcement, started a tracking project in 2015 to track "police violence". SInce that date they have found that there have been 5,645 persons shot and killed by police. Of this number only 357 were unarmed. Of those 357, 125 were black. Number of unarmed blacks killed so far this year...9. For comparison of the 357, 147 were white, whites killed by police this year...12.

The Post has locked their data down recently. They used to allow people to look at the base data that tracked a wide range of information including victim names and the race of the officers that shot. Can't do that anymore...you can only look at information using specific filters that the Post deems important. One of the you can no longer determine is the race of the officer involved.

As with seemingly everything now, there is the narative that certain groups want you to believe...and then there is the truth which is often 180 degrees opposite. The narative being pushed by BLM, certain "community defense groups", the Democratic Party and large swaths of the media is that white police officers are racist and have declaired open war on black males which has resulted in huge numbers of police killing unarmed blacks. But the numbers just don't bare that out.

Meanwhile, 34 police officers have been shot and killed so far in 2020 and 10 people were shot and killed in Chicago last weekend...And no one is protesting or burning anything.

IUP will break ground today for its new Science and Math building (Kopchick Hall). Construction will start later this Fall.

This building is going where the now-demolished Leonard Hall once stood.
